Question : I am moving from the USA to Italy and I am looking for a very cheap way to ship two boxes of stuff .?
I do not care how long it takes for me to get it. I tried looking for quotes online but all of them are too expensive for my pockets. I am looking to spend no more than $ 200. Do you guys have any suggestions?

I’m moving from San Jose, CA to Boston, MA and I have around 7 boxes with me. Some are heavy (books, desk lamp, etc) some are light (clothes, toilet stuff, etc). Does anybody know approximately the cost of moving these stufF?

Contact ABF. You can find them and some other companies at move.com. They are a trucking company that sell you space on their trucks. You pack it on and they deliver it. I have known several people that have used them and were very happy with their service. UPS or the post office will cost you a fortune.

You’ll be hiring an interstate mover, which means the federal government oversees the licensing and regulation of the moving company you’ll use. A few tips.

Find movers in the Yellow Pages, get recommendations from friends, or search online.

Insist that at least three movers come to your home to see EXACTLY what you need moved. This is the only way you’ll get accurate quotes.

If one of the companies is MUCH lower than the others, don’t pick it. Companies that low-ball you are notorious for ripping people off — they quote you low to win your business, then add other fees later.

When you have a company you favor, go online and check them out at governments website: http://ai.volpe.dot.gov/hhg/search.asp.

Check the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints.

I know this seems like a lot of work, but it will help you avoid a lot of headache down the road.

The last time I had movers come, I basically just sat outside and read a book as the movers moved. I gave them water and stuff, but I was all packed and had nothing to do. I feel weird sitting around while they work. Should I leave the apartment for a little while or something?

the drive is 4 hrs. and there is probably a couple hrs of packing involved.
thanks kim but im trying not to do the moving for personal reasons. i would just like a rough estimate on how much it would cost to have someone else do it.

This isn’t exactly what you asked for, but how about if you rent a U-Haul truck and do it yourself. Get some free boxes off of Craigslist and do it all yourself and save a bundle. Sell most of your stuff first so you won’t have so much junk to move. You’ll be glad you did.

Cheapest way – Hire a van and do it yourself.

Next cheapest – find a company that does part loads, in the UK we have companies that will put several peoples moves together if none of them will fill a removals truck themselves.

How much would it cost to have a company drive a big moving truck full of our stuff from CA to TX pulling our car behind us? Also, have them load and unload for us?

Depends on the company. If they’re family owned, they might be a little cheaper. Look for family owned moving companies.

But expect to shell out big bucks for nationally known moving companies, such as Atlas and United Van Lines. You could probably expect to spend anywhere between 5,000- 10,000.

To load your stuff at your current place, have your friends and family help you.

It would probably be cheaper for u to rent a UHaul or Budget truck with a car trailer. You can also find some Mexicans to help you unload at your new place. Usually they’re hanging around the truck rental places or you can ask around where to find them. They probably charge $ 10 an hour. I’ve used them before several times and everything worked out fine.

I’d start looking online for different quotes. If you’re towing a car…u have to know what year, make and model. They add that in the total price.
