Question : Upscale bathroom remodeling project to include larger shower only. Will no tub hurt resale and/or appeal?
The remodeling project will include double sinks w/ granite counter tops, tile on floor and in shower, upscale faucets/shower head, new toilet, etc. We are not sparing much for expense and I think it will look great, I just wonder if it will look as nice to other potential buyers down the road without a tub.
We do have another bathroom with a shower/tub combination.

Most buyers want a tub in a bathroom, somewhere in the house. If you have two bathrooms, you will be fine having one without a tub. This is especially true if the buyers have children.

Question : replacing tub/shower with a shower. Do I need a new vent?
I ripped out a 30 x 60 tub/shower and am replacing with a 34x 60 walk in shower (prefab fiberglass pan). The plumbing is currently a 2″ drain that tees into a 1.5″ tub drain and 1.5″ tub overflow drain. My plan is to cut off the t and replace with a 1.5″ elbow connected to the shower drain. Will this work and will there be any venting problems? I.e. is the venting already handled by the existing plumbing (which is below concrete slab I can’t see). thanks!!
The tee goes from the main drain to:
1) the shower drain and
2) straight up about 18 inches to the bath overflow drain. So there is not a vent I can see (though I don’t know what it would look like). However I’m assuming that it must be vented otherwise I would have already had problems from the existing tub/shower. Does that seem correct?

Question : Tiling Complete Walk-in Shower?
I have a shower in my basement that is made out of masonry brick and a concrete floor. The old homeowners painted the enclosure and I want to install tile. I have installed both floor and wall tile in my upstairs bathroom and think I can tackle this but I still have a few questions: If I were to scrape the chipping paint off can I tile right over the brick and cement floor? or do I need a backer board of some sort for the walls? Also I know that there are special adhesives to use for shower floors, so which is best? I am planning on using smaller square tiles on the floor of the shower (I figured that would be much easier so I can maintain the slope towards the drain) and larger tiles on the wall. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
