I’m working for a State Farm agent making $ 11 an hour. I have my property and casualty licenses and I am also S.F. bank certified. I answer the phones, handle service work, basic admin./office manager duties, as well as sales of home and auto policies. I’m barely making $ 20,000. If I were to actually use my medical allowance for health insurance, I would be taking home even less!!

I feel like I am underpaid. I keep hearing about others in my same position getting paid significantly more. I’m living near Charlotte, NC too so I’m not in the back woods of BFE somewhere. I have asked for a raise but really don’t think it is going to happen because some excuse always pops up. I’ve been here for over a year and a half with no increase. I feel bad asking for money or making anyone “uncomfortable” but I feel like I am getting screwed. It is a small office, as in under 4 people and I do a bulk of the work….

Do you think I am being paid fairly? What should I do?
UGH…. I already have a part time job at the mall and SADLY it pays similarly to my full time job. :(

I’m 24 & have been saving a lot of $ . I currently make $ 30k/yr, and I would like to buy a condo that costs $ 60-70K My goal is to have it paid off within 60 months.
I should be able to put down 20-25 %, so I won’t have to pay mortgage insurance. Also, I live rather cheaply, always looking for good deals, and paying for all purchases (vehicles, etc) in cash.
2 questions:
1) How practical is it for me to have it paid within 60 months?
2) If I don’t have a mortgage payment once I am 30, what do I end up doing with all the money I’m not putting towards a mortgage/interest? (it almost seems too good to be true?!?!?!)

Question : How do claims for Renter’s Insurance get paid out?
I’m in MA, looking to get 50k in coverage for my apartment, where I have well up to 50k in stuff. Should I take inventory of everything now in case of some damage later? Like what if my house burns down, do they just send me a check for 50k? I just want to make sure Im covered. Also, since we’re renters I want my car to be covered for things like vandalism, theft or trees falling, etc, and I know car insurance wont cover them, homeowners is supposed to, but we rent. Ive looked around and cant seem to find this info and my agent blows me off-tells me not to worry…
Thanks for the info, thats what I was looking for-I knew they wouldnt just write me a check, but I couldnt find any answers on what to do. I figured photos or a video will be good, I will do that. I am making an inventory now and will have to work on the video, its going to be quite long though. This will certainly be a project. Thats interesting that you comment on job and salary, though I will have no problems on that end-we make far more than 50k a year.

As far as the car issue-a friend had her car broken into and said it went under her homeowners, I dont know why she would have lied about that.

So, if the idiot kids in the neighborhood smash a window on my car, my auto will cover it all? ie-the window and cleanup (reconditioning the leather, etc) or if a tree falls on it, my auto policy covers? I have the most coverage you can have, its a brand new car.

I know, I need a new agent, I know a lot about a lot of things, just not insurance, so I need someone to fill me in:)
Also-How do I find a “Broker” and not an “Agent”?

I am not sure about the car part but that might be an extra. I know if you store things in your basement and want that coverd from flood or sewage thats an extra. As for inventory it depends on you insurance company. Some wont need it unless its over a certain amount. some will try to send a agent to your house. some you just need a list. My house had a surge of electric that fried my electronics. No one had to come to my house and all I had to do is make a list of what was ruined and how old it was and how much to replace. Then they sent me a check minus my deductable.

I am with Acuity and I am happy with them. They cover my renters and my auto.

My fiance and I are looking into purchasing a house. What I want to try and figure out is what is the average amount we are going to spend on bills each month?

Gas, Water, Electric, Trash Pick-up, Homeowners Insurance, Cable etc.

It would be a great help so that we can figure out what can really afford in a house.

It REALLY depends on the region you are talking about, I’d venture to bet that here in Saint Joseph, Illinois our household expenses are far less than someone up in (say) Crystal Lake, Illinois.

That’s a toughie, because most insurance companies don’t like to tell their business like that. You can check with your state insurance commissioner and see who has the most complaints, and that will tell you who NOT to buy from. Also www.bbb.org may shed some light on your inquiry as well. That’s the better business bureau.

Question : Can you be sued for a service you performed but were never paid for?
I have a termite inspection company and we performed an inspection service for a client nearly 3 years ago. After performing the service back in 2006, it took nearly 4 months to collect payment because the client contended we did not “do a good job” We performed the service within the guidelines and scope of our contract and threatened Small Claims court. Finally they paid, but only 80% of what was owed us; figuring we didn’t do a “good job”.. “so take it or leave it..you can come sue us for the full amount if you choose”.. so we never filed a small claims action. However, we just now received a call from them saying we “missed something that we should have seen” and they are threatening small claims court..after living in the property for almost 3 years and never FULLY paying. Do they have the right to sue?? Or a valid case?
Statute of Limitations for our State is three years; so we are just inside of that by one month… and perhaps that’s the reason for the timing of the call now??

It may well be beyond the statute of limitations. It’s hard to say because you never told us where you live.

EDIT: Well, if they are calling, and not suing, ask them for documentation to back up their claim. Odds are, they don’t actually have anything. In any event, you can try to run out the clock.

Just did it. Our bill was $ 5000.00. We still ended up with a few broken items which I was upset about and I really watched them in the packing process. We used a Major company that had good insurance in case of breakage or loss. We were very happy with the service. They put the furniture in the rooms where it belonged, they put the beds back together, they we really wonderful!!! It was well worth it!! It was a bit expensive, but you pay for what you get!!! Remember that when you get quotes. You only get what you pay for when you move. If you cherish your things you’ll pay the extra to have them taken care of properly!!!
