I’m moving from San Jose, CA to Boston, MA and I have around 7 boxes with me. Some are heavy (books, desk lamp, etc) some are light (clothes, toilet stuff, etc). Does anybody know approximately the cost of moving these stufF?

Contact ABF. You can find them and some other companies at move.com. They are a trucking company that sell you space on their trucks. You pack it on and they deliver it. I have known several people that have used them and were very happy with their service. UPS or the post office will cost you a fortune.

Question : FL: How do I protect myself when buying a vehicle from a private party?
I’m currently looking at buying a vehicle from a woman in a neighboring town. I live in Tampa Florida, she’s in St. Pete Florida.

She currently has a lien on the vehicle through Michigan Educational Credit Union, I’ve asked a coworker who buys and sells cars often, his advice on how to handle this matter while being able to assure that in the end of this; I receive a clean title in hand.

My coworker said that the lady and I should meet at my bank(Bank of America), that we can get a Bill of Sale notarized and that I can wire transfer the money to her bank account so that her electronic lien can be released on the vehicle. At that point the vehicle is legally mine(with the notarized Bill of Sale, as well as a receipt for the wire transfer from the bank).

I can then take my Bill of Sale to that Tax Collector for a temporary tag and registration for the vehicle as we wait for the title to arrive at her house in the mail.

Once the title arrives at her home, she’ll sign it and I can go to pick up the vehicle. Then return to the Tax Collector’s office and get my permanent title placed on the vehicle.

Does this scenario sound reasonable? Is anyone familiar with the procedure of transferring titles with liens against them?(I know dealerships do it all the time when trading cars in that have liens against them, there must be a way for private parties to do the same)

That does sound reasonable. I would also suggest calling your bank, her bank and the tag office, to verify what you have been told. They won’t mind, at all, answering your questions. One more suggestion would be to get a car fax on the vehicle, as well, if you haven’t, already.

I am a Scrapbook and Paper Craft Artist, as well as faux-finishes on walls and furnature…
I also do Home Organization and Home Staging services.

I want to market my services, as I am terribly passionate and have been told I am talented. I have been becoming more and more busy with friends, and family, I feel I am ready to make a career out of these freelance art projects…I feel confident in myself and my business…but don’t really know:A)what to call myself, and B)how to market my services, and what should I call my business?

You have two separate things going, so you have to be very careful not to dilute your brand. You may want to devote half of your time to each, until one starts to make more money than the other. Then you can see how you would have to divide your time.

I make handmade paper and use it to make stationery and also cast objects, and it’s not a good seller. Most “crafty” things are not, because they’re fun to do, but people wouldn’t own any except what they do for themselves. BUT people might pay you money to teach it. For marketing, you can launch a website and also go around to craft stores and your local adult ed to offer classes.

Pick a name that tells people right away what they will be getting. Don’t be too cutesy because a lot of your customers will be men.

For the organization and staging, you may first have to convince people they want it. Give away some services and then get testimonials on how much time and money it saves them. Do your research. Meet with realtors (pay them for their time or offer them a freebie) and ask if staging makes a difference. Write your materials based on what they tell you.

You could join the local chamber of commerce and other business organizations in your town. The members always try to do business with the people they’re having breakfast with. Here is how to handle your local newspaper: Write an article talking about yourself in the third person, as if it’s written by a reporter. Send it to the business editor of your local newspaper. Guaranteed they will call to sell you some ads, but make sure that an article about you is part of the package. It’s ethical. You are news!

A nice website is an important part of the package. For your crafts, you can start with a freebie site and then upgrade to paid when the money starts coming in. Unless your a licensed real estate salesperson or real estate broker the answer is no. Agents, Realtors and Brokers all pay a fee to have the MLS service available to them. The flat-listing companies have real estate licenses and that is how they put you on the MLS, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to either.

Question : Can I get rid of black mold myself?
I am not even sure if this is truly black mold. We had a leak which was repaired a while ago and the wall is still open. I noticed some spots on the sheetrock but it has not grown or spread. Do we need a professional to come in and remove the sheetrock and mold or is there a safe way to do it ourselves?

Spray the affected area with bleach and let it dry. Then use Kilz primer and repaint the area. This will do it.

I called the builder a couple of weeks ago, he sent someone out. The guy said our toilets were overfilling, then draining the excess off into the tank, which was putting too much load on the tank. Sounds like hogwash to me, but I gave it a week. Anyway, I called the builder again since I’m still having problems, but my warranty expires next month. I have nothing in writing to show that I’m having problems in the warranty period–it’s all been between the builder and the guy who installed the tank. To make matters worse, my family and I will be out of the house (and not using the septic tank) for an extended period of time–right before the warranty runs out. Any thoughts?

I would request in writing an extension of the warranty to verify the problems are taken care of.

I don’t agree with the diagnosis. If your toilets were running constantly you would have known it. If they weren’t running constantly you shouldn’t have a problem unless there are 2 dozen of you living in the house.

you are not licensed to loan and earn interest on money. it is highly illegal to charge interest in most states.

best not to loan money ever! watch judy judy, its filled with people that loaned money to friends and family, that never get paid back. you never think it will happen to you but it does.
