My mom wants to drive to florida from virginia for my spring break. She’s 55, I’m 17. Is there a beach, or city we can go to that wont be too “party” for her (like daytona) and not too “retirement” for me?

Is assisted-living the best option for my mother?
7Question : Is assisted-living the best option for my mother?
My sister and brother-in-law own the house where my mother and I currently live. They bought the house as an investment, and because my parents were paying too much money to live in a small “villa” in a retirement community where they were not particularly happy. Now, due to my Mom’s continuing depression and the onset of stage two dementia (mostly loss of short-term memory), they want to sell the home and move her into an assisted-living facility. I think this is a bad idea. My mother is not a socially outgoing person, and I do not think she will flourish in that environment. Also, she’s as healthy as an ox, and I don’t think being around sick and dying people will do anything to lift her spirits. She can feed herself, clothe herself and does not require any medical care. I feel that uprooting her from what she has come to accept as her “home” could have very negative psychological effects, but I don’t have a “voice” because my sister is older and “knows best.” Is it a good idea?

No you do not. I took care of my mom in my home for three years (24 hour care) as she had a stroke. It was never enough. I haven’t seen or spoken with my family for many years. At my mom’s funeral my sister hugged me and whispered in my ear, “This is not about you.” Needless to say, I didn’t sit with the immediate family, I sat with my husband and his parents along with all the rest of the people. After the funeral, my brother-in-law (my husband’s brother) called me to tell me he had a letter from a lawyer. They send a copy of her will to him and they had me written out of the will the June before she died. My husband said that he got everything out of that family when he got me. Get caller id, don’t answer when she calls. All my family did when they got together was bad mouth the person who wasn’t in the room. I didn’t want to deal with that anymore nor put my kids through that (they didn’t even remember my kids names and they were the only neices and nephews). Don’t play their games. Hold your head high and go on with your life.
My mother in law is only 50 years old and mentally ill is there assisted living for her?
0Question : My mother in law is only 50 years old and mentally ill is there assisted living for her?
My mother in law is mentally ill (schizo-affective and bi-polar). She is self sufficient but she just sold her house (that was given to her). It was in a bad neighborhood and she did need to get out of there, we just didn’t expect for her to sell it so quickly. She has to move out by the end of January.
I was wondering if anyone knew if she would be allowed to live at an assisted living or independent living facility? Also, what price range are they. She is only getting about $ 85K from the sell. So this facility would probably just be temporary until we can find a condo for her or something.
Any help or suggestions would be welcome.
Oh also I am trying to get into contact with her case worker but that is harder than originally expected.
Thanks!

my mom has alz and has been in a home since 2001, sorry many diseases do not qualify for funding. I pay privately and it costs me a lot of money.
I woudl contact the county office of social services maybe they have a county funded facility where you live and could be placed on the waiting list. you will sacrifice the $ 85 K to them.
sorry for your problem.
Is my mother crazy (and if so, what disorder does is sound like)?
10Question : Is my mother crazy (and if so, what disorder does is sound like)?
It has become more evident the older I get that my mother is…well, she just isn’t right. She cannot be- there absolutely must be something wrong with her. However, when I look at psychological disorders, mental illness- none of the named issues fit her particulars.
She did have a bad childhood- as did all 6 of her brothers and sister. They all have decent jobs, homes, are active in their children lives and their communities.
Over my 29 years, she has lived a severe pattern:
1) normal: weird, eccentric, but does somewhat strive for normalcy and is somewhat active in her children’s lives. This typically lasts 1-2 years.
2) Than she’ll suddenly claim that the man she is with treats her horribly, accuses him of some kind of abuse and that she has suffered and given her life for him and her kids…she’s been a victim in every possible way.
3) Than she goes buck wild, dates and parties, dresses provocatively, spends foolishly. She doesn’t care about the emotional stress this causes others, actually she seems incapable of understanding it. She is illogical, irrational, peculiar, emotionless, self-absorbed…and speaking to her is often like speaking to a 15 year old. Everything adult- insurance, retirement, jobs- she practically rolls her eyes and does call it all “boring”.
She has gone through this several times, had 3 sets of children, given them all up, been in numerous relationships…she is a drain in every way. Now that I am adult, I am growing concerned that she will soon become a financial burden as well- since she has NO savings, retirement plan, or even health insurance.
She is incapable of adulthood, she is a child. (Her IQ is probably between 115-120, so that is not the issue)
Are you aware of any mental/psychological disorder that could be the root of her seeming insanity?
She has suffered depression- once, but it lasted a year/ and had an episode of nervous breakdowns as well.
But, as far as “bipolar”- she does not suffer mood swings at all. She is 99% of the time very happy- and completely unaware (careless) of anyone else including her children. It’s like she’s chasing butterflies in a field all day…for the past 47 years.
Nor does she fit the schizophrenia characteristics, not text book anyway.
