my wife is in the Army and has a good chance of being deployed. I am the home parent and taking care of the kids, 3 & 9. I am putting together a deployment readiness folder and need a checklist or list of docs, both military and civilian that will be needed if we move out of the country. Are possibly PCSing overseas or is she deploying? If you are going together to a place like Germany or Japan then that is a PCS. If just she is going with her unit then it is a deployment.

For either you will should have several copies of your birth certificates (yours, your spouse & childrens), marriage certificate, SSN cards.

You should also get POA – Power of Attorneys that can be done through JAG on base. For things like moving into Housing (both military and PPV), filing for putting things into or take out of storage, to ship a vehicle overseas, to buy a car, to replace a missing ID card, getting a passport for the children, leaving the country with the children….

Make sure you ID card will not expire while she is deployed

Have copies of all medical records and dental records at home

Have Tourist Passports for all of you and make a copy of the #’s

moving internationally with pet rabbit…?

Question : moving internationally with pet rabbit…?
I’m currently living in South Korea and while I was here I bought a rex rabbit as a pet. In 6 months I’m moving back to Canada and I’m wondering if anyone has ever moved internationally with a rabbit? If so, how did you go about it? And…was the rabbit in quarantine for any length of time? (i’m moving back to Toronto – so, this would be to Peason Airport)
Thanks!

i moved from south korea with a cat and all i had to do was have a health certificate and since there was nothing wrong with her she didn’t have to be in quarantine. But the best way to find out would be to call the airport. I know the time difference is bad but im pretty sure you’ll be fine if you have the health certificate.

Try travelling first, before just jumping overboard into a new country. The more ‘foreign’ a country is relative to what you’re used to, the more you’ll have to overcome to adjust and have a good (read: satisfying) life. Language, social customs, religious customs and prevalence, food differences, cleanliness standards, and so forth, change wildly from country to country and region to region. Consider doing some kind of language (and cultural, if available) immersion program in any country that speaks a different language to what your primary, or only, language is.

Easy citizenship? I don’t think there is any such place. It seems to me that some of the east asian countries are easier to work illegally (without the proper visas) but almost all of those job are in illicit trades.

Decent economy? Make sure you have some kind of employment in mind when you go anywhere. If you don’t have trades, technical or university training, are you prepared to compete for a job where the working conditions and pay may be marginal? It doesn’t matter if the economy is good if you can’t get a decent job.

i am thinking i need to move- maybe to canada or even london- but i dont know where to start- i have never left the us. can you give me pointers on passports, visas, etc?

Your primary concern will be a work visa. You must be very educated, have valuable work skills and find an employer to sponsor your work visa. if you do all that, remember London is unbelievable expensive to live in, wages are lower than in the U.S. and taxes are higher. Getting a passport is easy…see 1st site below. Getting a work visa to a foreign country is very difficult. it would be wise to save up, travel, visit other places before attempting to move.

Question : Moving internationally?
My boyfriend is moving from Guatemala to Florida. We are trying to find an affordable way to get his things here. UPS/FedEx/DHL are all ridiculously expensive. Does anyone have other suggestions? Maybe containers by boat? I don’t know where to look or who to call for this kind of info.

Contact a Freight company… You can get a container fairly cheap considering the size.
