Question : When is a space heater illegal?
I like to use a space heater in my office, because it quite cold. My boss is saying that under the Dallas fire code, that is illegal. From what I have researched, it is NOT illegal.

I just wanted to get a clear answer on when and where I can use a space heater.

Question : What is the average cost of replacing a water heater? Which would you choose insurance payment or heater?
My water heater needs to be replaced (electric) I have a warranty insurance that will replace it however there are a few non covered costs – the pan, the permit, some other part, it will cost me $ 512.00. They have given me the option to “cash out” which means they cut me a check and I try to figure it out on my own. Problem is the “cashout ” amount is unknown and it will take up to two weeks for me to find out what the amount is before i can even decide – two weeks without a hot shower is HELL! But I’m not sure what to do. What would you do?

Can anyone guess as to what amount they MIGHT give me?

The insurance company is American Home Shield.

ANY advice will help. I’m a new home owner and don’t know a thing about house stuff!

You can get a tank and the parts to do it for probably close to 250-300. If you have a handyman, or an uncle, or cousin, or boyfriend that may be able to do it for you for less than a plumber than that’s the ticket. If you have to call a plumber its gonna cost you at least $ 700. And that is with a cheaper tank. Sure would be nice to know how much they were giving you. As a matter of fact it is ridiculous what they are doing to you. If they are gonna present you with that option and then tell you to wait two weeks, that’s crazy. I would make a demanding phone call and get a solid answer. Then after this is all done, never call them again.

GE electric smart water heater hot water trickle?

Question : GE electric smart water heater hot water trickle?
Model: PE 40T9CB00. It was bought from Home Depot Canada few year ago under a 9 year warranty. After two years the hot water flow reduced to a trickle.
The culprit was a plastic insert in the hot water outflow adapter. This was apparently used to void the need to sealer during the home installation. Heat destroyed the insert and formed a sieve in the adapter. After taking apart and cleaning the connection normal water flow was restored. Now, two years later the same problem surfaced.
Technical support from Virginia, US recommended drain the tank 2x a year for sediments. (It supposed to be self-cleaning) Change the anode connectors (?).I have the impression they do not know what they are talking about and they do not care.
Anybody has any bad experience with this heater?
Any idea what could be the problem?

Draing your water heater twice a year is a truthful answer, especially if you have hard water. Basically all the crap that is in your water will sink to the bottom of the water heater, build up and eventually start to take out your heating elements.

For the self cleaning part, I guess I have never heard of such a thing, nor do I know how it would even work.

Problem you may have now is, if the tank is filled with sediments it may be very hard to get it all to come out. It usually builds up inside, and can be tough to get it all out.

Without knowing much about that particular water heater I dont see how the anode connectors could make the water flow to go to a trickle.

Any your probably right. Usually tech support people don’t have the slightest clue on what they are talking about, nor do they care if you have hot water. They usually have a book in front of them, they look for your problem in the book, and give you whatever answer is printed, and they always seem to think that should fix the problem when it does not.
