We had a home inspection prior to buying a home and a gas leak was found. The home owners just installed a new furnace and CA unit so I assume the pipe was not sealed properly after the installation,
We brought this up to the home owner and he feels that since he has already reduced the price on the home by $ 16,000 and added the furnace/CA (which by the way we did NOT request) he feels he shouldn’t have to pay to have it fixed.
How can you sell a home with a known gas leak?????
We are going through FHA to buy the home and I assume that they will find this during their inspection, if they do could they refuse the loan for the home?

A discovered gas leak is an extreme hazard, FHA or not. If the seller refuses to have it repaired, you need to walk away from the house.

There should be NO issue with such a situation, since the seller should be able to contact the furnace installer and have that leak remedied at no charge. Most gas leaks are not expensive to repair, and need to be handled immediately.

There should be a provision in your listing agreement with your flat fee listing agent that addresses if/what you have to pay for any “co-broker”.

My apartment was just inspected by the city (NYC). I have a hole in my ceiling in the baby’s room and My bathroom is constantly moldy (even though I spray with bleach every day) and their is badly peeling paint in the bathroom and the huge hole in my ceiling so bad that when the people walk upstairs dust rains down..Anyway….The inspectors came today and found lead they said every room has a higher than normal lead reading and has to be fixed by EPA certified contractor…Now to my question we are going to be displaced I would assume anyway….Does my landlord have to find alternate housing for us or am I just out on my but, until the repairs are fixed..I’ve go-ogled but I can’t find the answer for Brooklyn, NY. I have three kids one under the age of Two.

PS. My baby is constantly sick he was admitted to the Hospital a couple of weeks ago and always has a cold or infection..I don’t know what to do..Someone please help…Thanks

I am so sad about your story. My advice is you have blood tests done on all 3 children at once. I will be very surprised if your children are not exposed.

Then get in the phone book and get your self a good lawyer. A LEAD lawyer !!! I just saw a web page for one yesterday but I can’t find it right now. I will send it along as soon as I do.

The landlord should be MORE THAN happy to help you get out and into a safe place.
