Blue-ray and HD-DVD: The status of the format war
0In today’s entertainment, especially in the film industry, it has a war raging since early 2006 to the present between two rival formats, Blu-ray and HD DVD. Each is supported by acknowledged heavyweights in the entertainment and technology worlds.
Supporter and developer of the Blue-ray and HD DVD
The Blue-ray format developed by Sony and Pioneer. As the name suggests, its creation was facilitated by a laser-bleue. It stores 25 gigabytes on a single-layer DVD and 50 gigabytes on an increasingly popular double-layer DVD. It has the additional function of the processing of information at a faster rate, and although the software and hardware are expensive to produce, offering Java applications.
The HD-DVD format on the other side is supported by Toshiba. It can only store 15 GB on a single-layer DVD and 30 gigabytes on a double-layer DVD. His touted advantage is that it is free of charge coding region as in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
Both the Blue-ray and HD DVD formats provide a screen resolution 5 times that of standard DVD to give an even higher quality movies. This has paved the way for movies to give the nickname of Blockbuster and provides a secure way for the film star (s paved) to achieve the reputation of being a superstar.
The so-called Blue-ray and HD DVD format war continues to rage, and the stakes, in particular in sales, is rising. Toshiba has apparently taken the strategy of the reduced prices to consumers to swing to their side. Granted, the Blue-ray costs more. It has countered by releasing the mesh Toshiba’s PlayStation3, which allows game console, with Blue-ray DVDs.
Although it is expensive compared to HD-DVD, sales of Blu-ray and HD DVD in regions outside the U.S., like Australia, Japan and Europe, its counterpart has flooded. There are also those who claim that HD DVD has lost the war.
However, there are productions that to take sides, such as Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Animation SKG, the HD DVD supports consideration, Warner Brothers, Twentieth Century Fox and Disney Productions took over the Blue-ray and HD DVD format. A simple explanation of the last manufacturers point to the additional memory and speed, given their nod of the head obtained.
While there are those, which is DVD format war right there, confusing consumers and a major problem in the entertainment industry, for many of the war is over. There are only a few pockets in the world where the “war” continues to sputter. In the final analysis, the war between Blu-ray and HD-DVD is won by the former.
