The leak has caused mold and bugs have infested some boards in the wall. The house is under warranty and the builder just wants to bleach thr boards and dehumifidy. The boards look in bad shape as the leak is at least 3 months old. I am looking for suggestions, etc. This is my first home.

If your home is under warranty you should defianetly have it fixed. Demand to have the wall taken out and the plumbing fixed and a new wall put up. Bleaching and dehumidifying will not fix the problem, just cover it up. This is why they make warranty’s. Act quickly though, most warranty’s only last a year, and you already lost a few months. :) Best of luck!

Was it a foreign investor or a rich person with deep pockets manipulating the markets in many different places at one time? Was it a major investment firm doing same? Or was there a company that was falling from poor subprime mortgages that led the fall? Is there a way to find out what led the spin? Can we simply follow volume numbers and see where that leads? A couple things were the main catalysts of the fall on the 26th. Fallout from the subprime mortgage fiasco was defintely one of them. Another was that a lot of the companies from the S&P 500 reported earnings this week, with many of them underperforming wall street’s expectations. Housing was another program, as new home sales fell like 4%.

Question : How long do you have to sue a home builder if your home has a major defect caused by the builders?
We had our home built in 2003, so we have been in it six yrs. now. Recently we discovered that there has been a very slow leak in one of the bathroom walls since the home was constructed. There was no evidence of this leak until recently, as this is a guest bathroom not used very much. The only time it would leak is when the shower was being used, which is rare. Apparantly, the builder’s workers pierced a pipe with a nail, causing a slow leak. Now, we have to have mold specialists come out and test the air for dangerous molds, then have a company clean up the mold, and of course there is the remodeling of the bathroom to do. This is going to come to thousands of dollars, which we do not have. We have also contacted our home owners insurance company, which will cover none of it, as # 1, they do not cover mold inspection or cleanup, and # 2, they will not cover the work to get to bathroom “put back together” because the leak was due to poor construction on the builders part. If there is anyone out there who is an attorney or who knows the law, I would appreciate and info. on our rights as homeowners. We are scared, not only of the possible mold issues, but scared of the cost, because as I mentioned before, we have no money to pay for this. At this point, we cannot even take a loan out for repairs and such, because we could not afford to repay the loan. I work, our two sons work, and my husband works two jobs just to get by. Please help with any useful info. if you can. Thank you!

Most builders have structural warranty information on their websites. They can run anywhere from 2-10 years. However, if your warranty has expired, contact your local Registrar of Contractors. Their guidelines are usually 10 years on structural. This will over ride the builders warranty in your state, as you builder will have a contractors license in your state.

The recession was caused by people being unable to pay back their home mortgages because the mortgage rates were too high?

Banks were not getting their money back from home owners, causing a credit crunch, thus they were unable to lend money to big businesses.

Big businesses then had to cut back on expenses and began to lay people off the the thousands.

So what caused the mortgage rates to go up so high that started this financial mess in the first place?

We have a lot of mold in our home. My son has always had bad allergies and is currently on three meds that are barely controlling his symptoms. He’s been having severe stomach pain for nearly a year so we’re going to a pediatric GI specialist next month. Could the mold be causing his pain? We can’t move till 02.10 due to our lease so I need to know what my options are.

The city utilities emptied a water tower into the sanitary sewer, causing a back-up and damage to as many as 30 properties. I had water/sewage in my basement. I tore out the carpet, I want the drywall cut off and redone, and I had a lot of personal property down there that was ruioned as well (such as a saxophone and electric keyboard). I met with the utilities’ insurance adjuster and he said they would redo the basement (cut the drywall, paint, new basebaords, and carpet), but for the personal property I would only get depreciated value. Is this right? Under Minnesota law, can they really only give me depreciated value for my property that the destroyed through their negligence?

the depreciated value is the actual value of the items you lost so yes it is completely legal as they are fully compensating you for the current market value of your belongings. You can check with your insurance company to see if there is any supplemental damage insurance that can be claimed, however filing a claim may effect your premiums.

Question : A tree in our yard has caused?
the wall that separates our house from the neighbors house to lift up over the last two years. They are really nice people and I am so scared of it causing a fued of some sorts but most defientley cannot afford to address the matter right now.

I am wondering if our homeowners insurance or warranty would cover any damages? They mentioned that the roots have even cause a crack in the foundation in thier garage.

You will need to contact your insurance agent as the law may vary in different states.

In Idaho…it is very specific…it stops at the property line. Yes even if my tree falls on my neighbors house. I am responsible for my property up to the line. His insurance will cover his house and up to his property line.
