In whatâs become its own holiday tradition, Boston Pack and Ship, a small load shipping specialist, donated 300 boxes, tape and other packing supplies to Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops for its annual Christmas Care Packages drive.
Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops is a non-profit organization started in 2005 by then 12-year-old Dylan DeSilva of Brewster, Mass. Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops sends care packages to U. S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan on a weekly basis. For the holidays, Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops holds a special Christmas Care Package drive. This yearâs goal is to send 1000 care packages to U. S. soldiers overseas.
âWeâve been involved with Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops for a few years now. Itâs one of those causes where itâs never a question of whether or not we can help, but how much,â said Joe Fell, co-owner of Boston Pack and Ship.
In addition to Boston Pack and Shipâs donation, the small load shipping specialist recruited its vendor, Collin Box & Supply, of Easton, Mass. , to sell the remainder of the boxes needed by Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops, 800, at cost.
âWe receive a number of these requests, almost on a weekly basis, and itâs an easy one to say yes to,â said Paul Murphy of Collin Box & Supply. âMy daughter is with the Air Force and will soon be deployed overseas. Iâm grateful for the efforts of groups like Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops for their support of the men and women overseas serving our country. â
Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops will host a packing party for the Christmas Care Packages on November 21 and 22 at the Trowbridge Tavern, 100 Trowbridge Road in Bourne. Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops regularly sends care packages to U. S. Troops overseas and accepts donations year round. Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops is a non-profit organization started by 15-year-old Dylan DeSilva of Brewster, Mass. Dylan wanted to find a way to honor U. S. Troops for their service and sacrifice to our country. With the help of his family and friends he sends care packages to our Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan on a weekly basis. Boston Pack and Ship’s contribution will go towards Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops’ effort to send 500 care holiday packages to U. S. Troops.

“When we heard Dylan’s story and what he was trying to accomplish with the holiday care packages, it wasn’t a question of would we help, but how much we could help,” said Joe Fell, co-owner of Boston Pack and Ship. “Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops is a wonderful reminder of what the holidays are supposed to be about: giving. When you consider how far away from home the men and women of our armed forces are, it’s an absolutely wonderful gesture. ”

On Saturday November 22nd and Sunday November 23rd at the Trowbridge Tavern, 100 Trowbridge Road in Bourne, Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops will hold a Christmas Care Package Party to assemble all 500+ care packages. On May 25, Memorial Day, Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops held its 5th annual Spotlight on the Troops at the K-Mart Plaza on Route 132 in Hyannis. In addition to honoring U. S. service men and women at the event, Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops collected items for care packages to be sent to troops serving overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. Boston Pack and Ship, a Braintree-based small load shipping specialist, donated 200 boxes and packing supplies towards this effort.

âGood things may come in small packages, but without the packages, we canât collect or send anything anywhere. So we really appreciate Boston Pack and Shipâs generous donation as some of those were used to collect donations at the Spotlight on the Troops event and the rest will be used to ship the care packages overseas,â said DeSilva.
Donating to Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops is not a new endeavor for Boston Pack and Ship. The Braintree-based packing and shipping company also donated boxes to Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops holiday effort in which more than 500 care packages were sent to troops overseas.
âWhen we heard Dylanâs story, it wasnât a question of would we help, but how much could we help,â said Joe Fell, co-owner of Boston Pack and Ship. âBy donating boxes for the event and the mailing, as well as selling additional boxes at cost, weâre hopefully doing our part in keeping this very worthwhile effort going. â
