Question : How would your homeowners insurance agency know what breed of dog you have?
Other than asking you, how would your homeowners insurance agency know the breed of your dog. I have been thinking about adopting a pit/pit mix but I am worried because my homeowners insurance does not cover certain breeds. So how do they know if you have one of those breeds? Particularly if its a pit mix? Does that count as a restricted breed? Do they check your home? Ask for papers on the dog?

The problem will come if you ever get sued because of that dog’s actions. The insurer can then decline to defend you or cover your losses.

Say they can produce a “Canine Good Citizenship” certificate to the insurance agency… or a training certificate from some sort of reputable organization…. should they receive a discount like one does if one has an alarm system installed in one’s home?

no. part of homeowner’s insurance is covering you if your animal hurts a visitor…. you have more risk to others in your home, not less with ANY animal present.

They’re worth it anyway, but no, they shouldn’t get you a discount.

First of all I would like to say how annoyed I am that good dogs have to be judged by a dangerous breed category! I own a doberman pincher. He is two years old and an excellent dog. I will be renting soon and I am having trouble finding renters insurance that will accept a doberman. I live in upstate NY. Does anyone know of any? Thank you!

First off, I agree that doberman’s get a bad rap. They are not even close to pit-bulls or rots. The sweetest dog that I EVER had was a DP. With that being said, there is going to be no such thing as “reasonable” rates with a “dangerous” breed.

Question : How old is “too old” to breed a horse?
I have a 19 year old granddaughter of Peppy San. She was my 4-H project for several years and is now living the life of luxury in retirement. She’s sound and sane, but has never foaled before. She hasn’t had a heat cycle in a few years now, and that in itself worries me. But she is only in with another mare and has never been teased by a stallion. Before she becomes too old to ride, I’d really like to have a foal out of her to preserve her legacy. She’s been wonderful and I’m sure her babies would be wonderful as well. What, if any, steps should I take?

Have your vet examine her. It may be that she is too old to breed. When I was growing up, we had a lot of horses.
My grandad bred and trained them as a hobby. He was a vet, too. I don’t remember any of the mares being older than 10 or 12 when they had foals.

Nationwide insurance is discriminatory aganist pit bulls as they do not give quotes or cover homeowners for homeowners insurance if you have a pit bull. I hate bad owners that make it so hard for good owners and good pit bulls, it’s absurd!!!! Are there other insurance agencies that do this wrongful act too???
