A home flower garden is above all a place to create and dream. It is also a place to play, to work hard, and to rest, contemplating what human beings and nature can create by working together.
No matter the size of the garden plot you have to work with, your time and budget constraints, or your personality, you can design a flower garden that allows you to expressive your creativity, to get closer to nature, and to further enjoy being human.
Planning and setting up a flower garden may initially seem like a daunting task, but learning a few basics will set you firmly on the path to joy and beauty.

Top 5 tips for flower gardening:
Tip #1 Plant the Best Flowers for your Space.
Plant smart. Plant sun loving flowers in a sunny location, shade loving flowers in a shady location. If you are a beginner, start with easy to grow annuals such as marigolds, salvia or petunias for sun, try impatiens for shade. Or, plant a few easy perennials. Space the plants to allow for their mature size.
Tip #2 Prepare the Soil for Growing Flowers.
Good soil means good roots. Your flowering plants need healthy roots to support and nourish the stems, foliage and flowers. Loosen the soil down about six inches for annuals, ten to twelve inches for perennials. Mix in organic matter such as compost. Check the pH to see if you need to add lime or sulfur to adjust the pH. The time to remove weeds is before you plant.
Tip #3 Use Organic Mulch on Flower Beds.
Organic mulch such as shredded bark, half finished compost, or chopped autumn leaves benefits the flower garden in many ways. Mulch helps hold down weeds. It moderates soil temperature changes. And it helps the soil stay more evenly moist so you water less. Mulch is your best time saver in the flower garden.
Tip #4 Best Fertilizer for Flowers.
Ideally, gardeners should run basic soil tests to see if they need to fertilize and how much. But as a rule of thumb, you can use a general purpose granular fertilizer or a slow release granular fertilizer with an analysis of 10-10-10 (the three numbers on the label) or similar. Read and follow the label directions for how much to use. Never use more than the amount on the label. Over-fertilized plants are more prone to pests and diseases; if in doubt, use less.
Tip #5 Water Flowers Correctly.
Most flowers prefer soil that is evenly moist yet well drained. This means damp like a wrung out sponge, not sopping wet and not dried out. It is better to water less often — but water deeply. To know if you need to water, dig into the soil with your finger. If it is still damp, don’t water yet. When you do water, apply it slowly and thoroughly. To be effective, the water must soak down to the deepest roots. After watering, wait a few hours and then dig down to see how far it went. Sometimes this is surprising!
BONUS Tip #6 Flower Garden Care: Deadhead and Inspect Flowers.
Remove faded flowers and discolored foliage promptly to keep your plants looking their best. Monitor your flowers regularly so you can catch any pest or disease problem early, before it develops into something too serious.

Welcome to Wake County NC.

Wake County has been the scene of acrimonious dispute since the school board voted to scrap a decade-old policy that used busing to achieve socio-economic balance in public schools. The NAACP and other groups have staged protests and marches and filed a federal civil rights complaint.
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Education/2010/0324/Busing-to-end-in-Wake-County-N.C.-Goodbye-school-diversity
Parents and residents who spoke in favor of the new policy at Tuesday’s board meeting said busing for the purpose of economic diversity poses an unfair burden on families, in terms of costs to the district and in time that children could spend on learning rather than being transported.

•Accountability – A Wake County School Board that is accountable to Wake parents, students and taxpayers and members and will lead based on principle;
•Flexibility – Revision of the student assignment policy, which includes supporting stability for individual students, KEEPING SIBLINGS TOGETHER, and recognizing families as INDIVIDUALS rather than NODES within a system. This also includes creation of additional options for parents and students when a proposed assignment is unfavorable;
Would you be okay with this? I mean honestly….would you? Remember this is your child that is going to sit on a bus for an extra 40 minutes to go to a school that isn’t even near your home. In the name of “diversity”?
Country Club? you are lying.

1Question : I just bought a new home – love the floor plan but not the kitchen. Need to remodel…any ideas?
Hi,
I just bought a new home – love the floor plan but not the kitchen. The previous owners have put granite floors, stone tiles for countertop, maple cabinets and white appliances. The ganite is black with brown spots like pattern – it is similar to the photos posted in the previous discussion named “Kitchens I have designed”. The countertop is light brown with brown grout and the maple cabinets are the light colored kind. If you can imagine it – nothing goes together in the kitchen.
I am not sure if I want to change the granite floors as that extends to the family room (open plan). Currently the walls are beige and I am planning on changing that to brown (not very dark but dark). What else should I change in the kitchen to make it look look beautiful? I am looking around in the forum and see very talented and creative people here – so, I am hoping to get some opinions about this. Please do let me know. I really appreciate it!
Thank you!

The city was hiring out here in Katy when they were doing the I-10 work on this end. There’s a concrete recycler at 10 and Grand Parkway(N). You should stop out here and see if they have any info on that.

You may be able to find a third party that offers home warrantys. To my knowledge, they generally do not cover roofs. I think you can get different levels that cover different things, with AC being one of them. Go to yahoo and search “home warranty”. Several companies come up.

I’m looking for something cheap since I’m just out of college. The exterior of the building is already covered. I guess all I have to worry about is fire and theft on the interior.
Yes, I own the condo and I have 100% financing. The lender didn’t specify any requirements for what kind of insurance I should purchase.

If it’s worth it or not depends only on your traveling habits.
Timeshare is definitely for people with NO FINANCIAL problems and when doing it for the RIGHT reasons and under the RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES it can be a GOOD THING.
BIG “NO,NOS” IN TIMESHARE:
*If you normally spend less than $ 100 USD a night for accommodations then timeshare is NOT FOR YOU
*It is not a financial investment
*Don´t buy if you plan to rent it
*Don´t buy if you plan on reselling
*Don´t buy if you plan on exchanging often
*Make sure you can afford to travel at least one week a year
*NEVER BUY FROM THE DEVELOPER
THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES:
*This system makes vacation home ownership possible for many people who cannot afford a second home or who otherwise would not be able to enjoy such resort facilities. Timeshare is an investment in lifestyle, in future holidays, in family time together, and when viewed that way it can be a good investment indeed.
*Get it in an area the you LOVE and that you would visit every year without a problem
*Get it in a very nice Resort (where normally people would pay at least $ 200 a night)
*Get it in the resale market (it would cost you less than $ 1000 USD) so all what you have to spend is the maintenance fee.
HERE ARE THE NUMBERS:
$ 200 USD a night (in a decent resort) x 6 nights = $ 1200 USD
Maintenance fee in a NICE RESORT x 6 nights = $ 700
*Maintenance in a “decent resort” x 6 nights = $ 400
You need to look at the contract for a way out if you want to back out, most likely you are stuck with it.
Good Luck!
