Question : Army question about moving family internationally?
my wife is in the Army and has a good chance of being deployed. I am the home parent and taking care of the kids, 3 & 9. I am putting together a deployment readiness folder and need a checklist or list of docs, both military and civilian that will be needed if we move out of the country. I am new to this so army life , so please dumb it down a bit :)

Are possibly PCSing overseas or is she deploying? If you are going together to a place like Germany or Japan then that is a PCS. If just she is going with her unit then it is a deployment.

For either you will should have several copies of your birth certificates (yours, your spouse & childrens), marriage certificate, SSN cards.

You should also get POA – Power of Attorneys that can be done through JAG on base. For things like moving into Housing (both military and PPV), filing for putting things into or take out of storage, to ship a vehicle overseas, to buy a car, to replace a missing ID card, getting a passport for the children, leaving the country with the children….

Make sure you ID card will not expire while she is deployed

Have copies of all medical records and dental records at home

Have Tourist Passports for all of you and make a copy of the #’s

wanting to move out of the states to try something new, but i would like to find secure employment. i will be traveling with family till we set up a location for residence and would not mind additional traveling employment & training. have not had much luck online with job searches and want to get a better idea and maybe more options.

son is in Iraq.has had one judgment in the past when they moved out of an apartment 3 months early but that was satisfied.He enlisted for 6 yrs.He has a wife and 3 yr old.Why type loan would he qualify for?

No and if the judgement is still showing up he will not be approved for a VA loan or any other type of mortgage. To get the VA loan he has to be in the reserves for 6 years and then after the 6 years he will be able to receive the VA loan

The army told us that they would pay for us to move to Fort Hood, TX but I havent heard anything about how I should get the money. We’re moving on March 1st, 2009 so we need to know quickly. And since they said they’d pay for it, we haven’t saved any money to pay for it ourselves. So any information on how I should do this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I don’t know that much about military, but I would try asking a superior officer. I’m sure they would be able ot point you in the right direction.

In July 1864, Union General William T. Sherman ordered the arrest and deportation of over 400 women and children from the villages of Roswell and New Manchester, Georgia. Branded traitors for their work in the cotton mills which supplied much needed material to the Confederacy, these civilians were shipped to cities in the North (already crowded with refugees) and left to fend for themselves. This work details the little known story of the hardships these women and children endured before and–most especially–after they were forcibly taken from their homes. Beginning with the founding of Roswell, it examines the prevalent atmosphere in the area and the pre-war circumstances that created this class of women. The main focus, however, is what befell the women at the hands of Sherman’s army and what they faced once they reached Northern states such as Illinois and Indiana. An appendix details the roll of political prisoners from Sweetwater (New Manchester).
