LAS VEGAS — Federal agents seized five pounds of C-4 military explosives from the home of a man accused with a Navy SEAL and a Las Vegas associate of smuggling machine guns from Iraq into the U.S. for sale and shipment to Mexico, authorities said Thursday.

Grenades and night-vision goggles also were found in the Colorado home of 34-year-old Richard Paul, according to federal prosecutors and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents in Las Vegas and Colorado.

Paul and Andrew Kaufman, 36, of Las Vegas, were arrested Wednesday and appeared Thursday before federal magistrate judges in Durango and Las Vegas on conspiracy charges. Each was ordered held in federal custody pending an evidentiary hearing.

They are accused of conspiring with Navy SEAL Nicholas Bickle of San Diego to smuggle and sell weapons to an undercover federal agent in Nevada and Colorado.

“As long as they got paid … they didn’t care if the weapons wound up in Mexico or on the streets of Las Vegas,” federal prosecutor Drew Smith told U.S. Magistrate Judge George Foley Jr. in Las Vegas.

Smith characterized Bickle, 33, as a “rogue Navy SEAL” — an active-duty special warfare operator 1st class who Smith said also worked as a consultant on the Hollywood movie “Transformers 3.”

Bickle was arrested Wednesday and was due to appear Friday before a

Did you know that the $1,400 the average American spends each year for bottled water is only 50 cents in TAP?

3

Question : Did you know that the ,400 the average American spends each year for bottled water is only 50 cents in TAP?
It’s simply a big waste of money and natural resources.
That’s right. Think about all of the plastic that has to be produced to make that stuff. Not to mention all of the trucks burning fossil fuels to transport it.

Hey, I’m an inventor and I protect my own good ideas, but here is one you can HAVE:
If you get rich from it then just remember to mention me when you go to the top. I have a great idea to help eliminate paper waste too.
So make this and get rich:
A portable tap water filter
So they already exist?
Obviously not handy enough, or they would be as famous as bottled water.
This could be a screw-on filter that could be kept on your key-chain in an air-tight container w/ filter inserts.
The bottled water industry is a multi-billion dollar a year business.
The air pollutants that come from making and moving that supposedly “better” water is more detrimental to our health than drinking tap water could ever be.
I have several great ideas. This one we need now!
Oh’, the screw-on filter isn’t for the sink, it’s for the bottle. I figure everyone’s gonna buy a bottle or two here or there. This could screw on the top of the bottle. It’s just a thought. I know we live in an extremely convenience oriented society.
I really think Begley and those guys have it right. I grew up with parents from the depression. Our family of 9 had average $ 16 electric bills! The heat was always at 65 degrees, and we lost allowance for leaving on lights and radios etc. Now if you notice, part of the satisfaction of conservation comes from the simplicity of ones surroundings.
I think the government should mandate supplemental solar hot water heaters for EVERY HOME IN AMERICA! They could be a 100% hands off unit that would not affect the existing water tank in ANY WAY. There would be absolutely NO COMPROMISE in how long those idiots could take showers…oops, it’s a peve I’m sorry. This would be a HUUUGE SAVINGS OF FOSSIL FUELS. There could even be tax write-offs.

I didn’t read it all. But where I am from you will get sick if you drink tap. We probably spend close to $ 3,000 a year on bottled water…we don’t really have any other choice. If the government gave a crap they would get better tap water.

Edit: Alright I read it. It sounds good…if you can get a one size fits all faucets. Did you go on American inventor?

Can I make American Home Shield Pay?

0

Question : Can I make American Home Shield Pay?
Long story short we just bought a house with an american home shield warranty 2 months ago. Our hot water now needs to be replaced. Not only is the water the color of chocolate milk, we have to keep the hot water turned off at the water heater b/c when turned on hot water spews outside of our home from the overflow pipe outside. This is caused b/c the pressure valve no longer works. AHS had a plumber come out to inspect who agreed it needed to be replaced, said he’d order it and submit his findings to AHS. Today we were notified by AHS that our claim was being denied. Why? b/c we still have hot water. None that we can use and spewing from the side of our house, never the less it is hot. We are having to take showers at my parents house, can’t use dishwasher or any other appliance w/ hot water. Can I make them pay to replace this?

I am a Canadian lawyer, so take this as coming from Canada.

In Canada, your recourse is to sue the insurer, but you must do so very quickly so your time limit does not run out. Your first step is to hire a lawyer to give you a quick legal opinion. Put him or her on a budget of about $ 1,000. The lawyer will then review the facts and law and let you know about your options as well as the strengths and weaknesses of your case.

Of major importance is the amount of money at issue. If you can take care of things for under $ 8,000 of your own money, my guess (not legal advice) from what I read here is that it would be better to do that than pay a lawyer to run it through court, costing you a lot of money, taking a lot of time and stress, and maybe not getting you anything in the end. Remember, they built the Court of Appeals to sort out errors at trial, so you could do everything right and still lose at trial.

One last option is that, if you think the problems stem from the negligence of the people who worked on your plumbing system or who supplied materials that are defective, you can sue them. You will, of course, need an expert’s opinion. This is what the insurer would do if it paid (called a subrogated claim). When you go to the lawyer, be sure to ask about the advisability of this kind of a claim.
