I’m a thirteen year old girl and just wrote this down this morning. I’m curious to know if it sparks anybody’s interest. Also, I LOVE constructive criticism. If you think it needs to be said, please say it! I love trying to improve my writing!

I stare blankly at the alarm clock, the little red numbers blinking at me in a perfect rhythm. I know what time it is, even if the alarm clock doesn’t. I know I should be getting up soon, but the rain outside my window and the events that will come today make me stay in the comfort of my bed for just a while longer.
A week ago, I never would have thought I’d be doing this. Ever since college my life consisted of waking up, going to work, coming home, occasionally going out with some friends or on a date, taking a shower, and going to sleep. I was perfectly content with this, and I never thought anything would change, or maybe I just didn’t think about my future, which I know now was a stupid thing to do.

In a way, I’ve always been the type of girl that hid behind her smarts. Throughout school, people knew Brandi Henson as the girl nobody knew anything about. Sure, I had some friends, even a few best friends, but I was withdrawn from the world and stuck to my routine. I never really thought anything of it, but my parents questioned me all the time about different things, always worrying there was some underlying cause for my social awkwardness. I eventually grew out of that awkward stage, however, and the only thing that really stuck with me was the need for recurring events. My routine was my security blanket, and I clung on to it as a lifeline. I like having a plan, a schedule. I like knowing exactly what I’m doing and when I’m doing it. Change is a scary thing to anyone, and for me I felt like that fear was multiplied too many times to count. Maybe that’s why this whole thing has been so unsettling, although I’m sure it would be frightening to anyone.
Exactly one week ago I was faced with a pretty drastic event. It had started off as a normal day-my alarm clock went off at 5 o’clock and I got up and got ready for my job at the museum. I grabbed the keys and my purse from the kitchen table and headed for the door. I had thrown on my jacket and was just huddling into the car to try and avoid the normal Phoenix rain when I realized I had forgotten the packet of articles relating to a new exhibit I was in charge of setting up. I quickly ran back up to my office and grabbed the yellow envelope. As I headed back towards the car I decided to save a couple seconds by walking across the yard instead of the walkway. My heel got stuck in the grass and I fell straight forward, slamming my head into the pavement of my driveway.
So, here I was, in pain and lying awkwardly just a couple feet away from my car, soaking wet from the rain that was still falling violently onto not only myself, but also the papers that I had spent hours gathering the night before. After a couple of minutes, I evaluated my head and made the decision that it wasn’t as bad as it seemed. I cautiously stood up and made my way to my car, a comfortable little Civic Coupe. After peeking in the side-view mirror to assure myself my head wasn’t bleeding I turned back around and headed towards my house for the second time, making sure I took the walkway.

That’s all for now, but I’ll probably keep working on it. The idea is that Brandi witnessed a murder. This will hopefully open her up to the world a little more, but I’m really not sure where I’m going with it.

I am 41 Years Old. When I talk about getting a degree people groan. Yet when I start looking for a job, The Degree is an obstacle. I have 18 Years of Fortune 500 and Big 3 Technical Experience including IT / MIS Project Leadership, New Facilities Implementation, Support of Infrastructure and Software. The list goes on. I have taken classes in business communications and assertive management. I have had classes in conflict resolution. Technical Writing, Computer Appilcations in Business, I have been spearheading projects and doing the work since the days of DOS and AT/XT. So Should I Buy a Degree? What will happen if I buy a degree? How much will it cost me? Do you know anyone who has purchased a degree? What is the criteria and how much weight does it have?
