Question : HELP. Need Info on student apartment rental in Florence for 3 month period.?
I’m trying to find information from other students or people living in Florence as to finding a great apartment rental in Florence for 3 students visiting from the US for a period of 3 months. The address of the school is ‘Lorenzo de Medici, Via del Giglio 15, 50123. They do not want the school housing and are looking for
a nice place with a good location. Price of course, matters, as they are students. Please help, any information is greatly appreciated. They are fashion design students and are embarking on a chance of a lifetime. We just
need direction as to finding good clean housing in a safe area, with plenty of amenities nearby, like
Groceries, restaurants, etc.. Any advice, especially from those persons in Florence or those who have lived there before is greatly appreciated.

Hi, I also studied at Lorenzo de Medici almost two years ago. I lived on Via del Terme 13. It’s right by the Piazza Republica and two blocks north of the Arno, a stones throw from the Ponte Vecchio. Awesome place to live but anywhere near any major Piazza is going to be expensive. Check more towards the outskirts of the city or the other side of the Arno. By the Santa Maria Novella, Pitti Palace, Sante Croce, even over by the Piazza Indipendencia. Here are some websites. Hope these help:

I studied at that very school during the Summer of 2003. I can suggest some areas of the city that are good. I lived at an apartment at this address: Via dei Saponai 8. It’s near the Uffizzi galleries and Piazza della Signoria. That’s generally a good area to live, the Santa Croce neighborhood. Or somewhere close to the train station Santa Maria Novella or Piazza del Duomo or Piazza San Lorenzo. This is all more or less the old, historic center of Florence.
As a side note, the smartest money I spent was when rented a bicycle for my time there.. It really makes an already quite accessible city even more so. -

It’s tough finding/arranging housing from abroad-mostly because it tends to be more expensive and you don’t really know what you are getting. Best way is to check all the bulletin boards near the schools when there. They are full of ads of people looking for housing/offering housing/seeking roommates to share, etc.

Do you want to be exploited? Then arrange accommodation before you arrive in Italy.
If you want to pay a fair market rate, wait until you arrive. Now, three months is a VERY short period of time. You’ll probably have to spend double the normal amount of rent, just like you would in North America (where apartment leases are for at least one year). I moved to Italy with two suitcases and a job offer, and had to arrange all my accomodation myself. MY HONEST SUGGESTION is to tell the girls to pretty themselves up and visit the local universities and colleges. There are tons of bulletin boards with notices of accomodation. Stand in front of the bulletin boards looking confused and lots of young Italian men will offer to help. Having a local on your side makes the house-hunting process a lot easier.
