Question : Are there any honest timeshare resales company out there?
I’ve been trying to sell my timeshare ever since I bought it, but there are so many scammers out there I feel like you cant trust any company cause once you’ve given then their “advertising” fee, what incentives do they have to sell your timeshare.
Ok, I bought the timeshare at $ 8,000 after financing it’s $ 20,000, I’ve spent around $ 3,000 on it so far. how much should I sell it for?

I am a consumer advocate and tired of seeing people getting ripped off by timeshare companies that have high, upfront fees for selling or renting timeshares. It makes me sick how many people get ripped off and pay very high fees for little results.
There are a lot of scammers out there. In my opinion, you should be able to market and sell your timeshare yourself.
I bought Hilton timeshare through someone on http://www.Craigslist.org (we developed a contract and ALL money went into escrow) and I sold it on eBay (contract and escrow again).
There are other reputable timeshare sites (that do not charge the outrageous fees) where you can sell your timeshare.
I would highly recommend that you check out a free forum that is ran and contributed by timeshare owners. You can get all the advice you need with your timeshare at the Timeshare Users Group forums. http://www.tugbbs.com

I would avoid ALL companies that want to charge you a high upfront fee (more than $ 50 or so) to sell your timeshare. Do not trust them and don’t listen to them if they say they can get more for your timeshare – it is a ploy to get your money.

If there is a mail box or a community bulletin board at your home resort, you can put a “For sale” sign. This will pressure the developer specially if they sell it for $ 20,000 USD and you offer it for $ 5,000. Sometimes on the fine print of some sale agreements says that the developer has the first right to buy if your place is ever sold. I have heard of developers paying the money (as long as is not too much) just to take the sign out.
To resale or rent a timeshare is a hard task, the basic rule is not to pay money up-front, don’t be another victim of a scam.
Unfortunately over 50% of people that really need to sell their timeshare falls for this resale scams where they charge money upfront and less than 10% of them use their only real option which is to post it or offer it trough free advertising options as much, and as many sites as they can (it is ok to pay a few dollars to post in a great place but no more that $ 20 to $ 30).
Timeshares do not have resale value and in most situations you would take a loss in what you paid for, as they resale for less than $ 2000 USD.
