Should you decorate your house for Christmas if you will be selling it during the holiday season?
Question : Should you decorate your house for Christmas if you will be selling it during the holiday season?
We are going to put our house on the market Mid November. Should we put a few Christmas decorations out? (Very sparingly) or should we keep our fall decor out (very sparing)? We have already “de-cluttered” and “staged” and it looks like pictures from a magazine. Very nice, but what’s your opinion on holiday decor?

YES, pay special attention to the outside decorations. Makes sure the house has great curb appeal.

I’d definitely decorate but keep it minimal – a tree and some lights and a few baubles, that sort of thing, but make sure you don’t obscure the best features of the rooms with decorations. You could however use eye-catching things to draw attention to the best features. I’d avoid excessive ornaments or a life-size nativity or anything along those lines!
Most people like to see a house looking ‘lived in’ when they view; it makes it look cosier and more welcoming and holiday decorations help with that – you want to get viewers thinking about how much they’d like to spend their Christmasses in your house as well.

You can but just don’t over do it. As a buyer and I’m going around looking for a home to buy. As far as christmas goes, that’s the last thing on my mind. I just want to buy a house get it done and over with with the closing of the house, move, then think about christmas. Also consider the fact that if your place sells, you don’t want to over decorate then get stuck tearing it all back down just to put it up at the new house. Right now, wait until after thanksgiving to put up the christmas decor. Because if you do have buyers that would enjoy the holiday decoration. They may still be in the Thanksgiving spirit too. Good luck on selling your home.
