Question : IT Staffing company just screwed me over bigtime!?
I’m very disappoiinted about what has just happened to me. I’m a 10 year veteran Java J2EE Software Engineer – Architect and this IT staffing agency just screwed me over bigtime man. They contacted me with an interview so I took the interview and nailed it. I got the job offer from thier largest client and got the offer letter, relocation packet and everything. Passed the backgound check, drug check and online exams.

I asked them several times PLEASE MAKE SURE THIS IS A DONE DEAL BEFORE I GIVE MY NOTICE AT MY JOB. I can’t stress to you enough how many times I told them to check, double check and triple check that because there are not many jobs of my field in this area. They called me and assured me I could put in my notice so I did and so did my fiance.

This past weeked we made a 14hr road trip to this city we are moving to looking for housing. We stayed there 2 days incurring all kinds of expenses and put down a $ 1475 deposit on a rental home. I get a call on yesterday and they tell me that the job offer has been retracted! What!!!! I asked why and they would not even tell me why. In the meantime myself and my fiance are out of jobs (can’t go back), spent all this money getting ready to move and have to move because since I am the breadwinner and there are no other Java Software Engineering jobs in this small city.

They won’t return my calls or respond to my emails. I asked to speak with upper management and guess what they said? Yep you guessed it. I AM THE MANAGER SO YOU HAVE TO TALK TO ME. I have a hardcopy of a job offer and a relocation packet. I don’t want to sue this company but they have ruined my current situation with no friggin explanation whatsoever.

We are not in a financial situation where we can make it through 30 days of both of us being unemployed.

What should I do?

I can sure understand why you are angry. But it isn’t the staffing agency the retracted the offer, it’s the company the job was going to be with. It happens, and you don’t really have any recourse, And if they’d had you move and start the job, then laid you off a month later, you’d be in an even worse situation.

You and your fiance might try contacting your old jobs and seeing if they’ll take you back. Not totally likely, but sometimes it happens. If not, good luck in your job searches.
