I’m about buying a home in houston and am thinking of using the buying agent as a property manager as I live out of town. He has given me his fees: 10% of the monthly rent. But i need to compare prices. I would like to know the general fee for Property managers in houston.

I work in real estate in California. Just remember that the property management fee is negotiable and right now, realtors are hurting big time and will take what they can get. You should say you’re willing to pay 5% of the monthly rent. I’ll bet you can find someone who will manage your property for that.
That’s a fair management fee. However, ask her what she charges for finding a tenant. If she says 10%, then sign a managment agreement. Most offices, mine included, get anywhere from 50% to 80% of the first month’s rent for finding a tenant.
