Question : Is there a way to force someone to the doctors? NY?
Well, This is really fucked up but my grandmothers brother has cancer. It was in his nose and he wouldn’t go to the doctor. A few years have passed since he was diagnosed and his nose has completely rotted away and has started to eat at this face. About a month ago it has loosened some muscles in his face and rotted them and his eye fell out.. I know, I just found out about this and I need to know a way in NY state that you can have someone emitted if they need help severely. My grandmother is trying to get a home doctor to come to his home and declair him “Stage 4″ so he can get hospis.
Also if your wondering how he has not gotten infected etc. this is because apparently he was given a mask to cover his nose.
Please realize I’m asking this because I didn’t know it was this bad at this point and don’t know what to.
Yeah, that is what I came up with while doing all the searching I could.. I was hoping someone might know an old law or something.
Well its not that he doesn’t want treatment its that he won’t go near a hospital.

I think the only way is to declare him unfit to take of himself and put him in a nursing home, but he can still refuse treatment as long as he is in sound mind.I know you care about him but he has his own reasons for not wanting treatment. If you you did something forceful would you really want him to be unhappy in his last days?

Brian, unless your uncle can be proven to be incompetent to make his own health-care decisions, there’s little anyone can do.
Many, many people choose to live with, and die of, cancers rather than seek or accept the treatment that will save their lives. This is their right, even when the rest of us think the decision could not be more wrong.

Fist of all, this is the United States where people are free to do as they wish so it doesn’t matter what state you are in you cannot force anyone to be treated without going to court.
Second, I have seen some pretty extreme cases and I can tell you no one gets to the point where their eye falls out and does not seek treatment. What did he do – throw it in the trash and go on with his day?
Third, there are several people on this website who do have cancer or love someone who does. Hopefully you will never know what this is like, but your question is disrespectful and insulting to them. It is not a nice thing to do and you should be ashamed of yourself.
