Question : Hoboken, new jersey…?
my friend and i want to move up to NY after college (which will be in like 7 yrs.) but i know where not going to have a lot of money after, but i want to work in theater and she wants to do something in NY.(idk what) but my moms friend is a realtor in south orange NJ which i LOVE that town! she suggested Hoboken because its so close to the city and there would be a lot of younger kids that would be our age. is that true? do you think hoboken is a great place for my friend and i?

Your mom’s friend is right. For the last 15 years or so, it has become the place to live for people just out of college. I did it, and it was great. Right now I live in Jersey City because I am too old for Hoboken. Jersey City is fun too, but Hoboken is outstanding. There is so much to do, and it is just one subway stop away from the city. The bars are packed Thursday thru Sunday and there is a frat party feel to the entire downtown area during those nights. There are great restaurants, nightclubs, and gyms. It has everything you’d want. People sunbathe on a pier that juts out into the Hudson and has a full unobstructed view of the skyline. When NYC has fireworks, people head down there to view them. It is awesome. It is definitely a good choice. By the way, I love South Orange too. I used to live in Maplewood.

Hoboken is a lot of things…. Hip, Young, Fun. One thing it’s not is cheap. If you want to be close to the city but not spend a fortune, then I’d suggest Downtown Brooklyn or Astoria Queens. Both are decent areas with half the rent.
You’ll be lucky if you can get a 2 bedroom in Hoboken for under $ 2,000.

My cousin lived in Hoboken for 4 years and put himself in debt, haha. It’s fun, a lot of clubs and a lot of nightlife, but extremely expensive.
