Read your warranty very carefully. I believe that in most cases ‘FUSION’ is the only legitimate option for replacing your fridge, other than fire, theft or ‘some’ water damage. Depending on the ‘problem’ with your fridge, you might be better off to have it repaired, rather than risking an ‘increase’ in your premium fees. Hope this helps some.

Hello – Wanted some opinions about a quote to install a 4500 downdraft evaporative cooler onto existing duct work. I was given $ 1600 inclusive of the unit and all labor, including a 1 year warranty on the labor and unit.

I know this is higher than buying a unit directly from a home improvement warehouse, but this is a higher quality unit. Basically, I’m wanting to know if this estimate is totally out of the ballpark or is at least fair.

A high end evaporative cooler is $ 569 (Mastercool). The roof mounting kit is $ 25 to 30. Copper tubing is maximum of $ 15. They have to put it on the roof, install the roof mounting kit, connect it to the existing duct and level it. Then connect the existing electrical wiring to it and connect new copper tubing, turn on the water and they are done. Installation is maximum of two hours, probably less. I would definitely say that is high.

How young?

I took my kids (both girls) to Hawaii (the island) and Maui when they were 10 and 12. Knock me over with a stick, but they loved Hawaii. We stayed at Waikoloa Beach Resort, where they got to swim with dolphins, nice beach, water toys to play with. What really floored me was how fascinated they were with the volcano when we took a whole day to drive there, see it and drive back. The pictures on my desk are from that trip.

The big island isn’t as lush as the other islands. There are old lava flows most everywhere, so it’s very desert like. Waikoloa is carved out of an old lava flow.

Question : Relocating: Do I find a job first or a home first?
I’m trying to relocate from the Chicago (IL) area to the Dallas/Fort Worth (TX) area. It seems like no one will consider me for a job in the area until I have a local address, but no one will give me a place to live (i.e., an apartment) in the area unless I have a local job. It’s like a “chicken and the egg” scenario!

My boyfriend lives in the area and has agreed to let me use his address and phone number on job applications, but I am hesitant to do that because if I get contacted for an interview, I will not be able to make it to one on short notice because I’m still in Chicago living in my old home and working my old job. I’m hesitant to leave my job and move until I find a new job because of financial concerns and especially because of medical insurance concerns (I have a chronic illness – not cheap!)

So: anyone who has relocated cross-country before – how do you do it? Do you find a job first or a home first?
In response to some questions asked….
I’m moving there partially because of my BF of going on 2 years and partially because houses there cost 50% of what they cost here while wages are only about 10% less. That means that even if things don’t work out with my boyfriend, I can afford a much better life there than I even could here. (Here, I cannot afford to move out of my parents’ home.)

I am looking for a job as an Administrative or Executive Assistant.

I have several thousand dollars saved up, although how many months’ expenses that would work out to depends entirely on how much medical coverage would be available to me through COBRA and how much that would cost me. (I can’t exactly ask my employer or they will know I’m considering leaving.)

Another question – how do I convince or persuade a potential employer to hire me, an out-of-state candidate, when so many qualified local people are applying for the same job?
