I live in Amherst New York and he now lives in Colorado. He is not maintaining his property and currently does not have his property listed. He has tried selling it before with a realtor but he’s asking too much. I heard if your home owners knows that your house is vacant they’ll double your insurance. How do I find out his home owners insurance?

I doubt you can find out who is home owner insurance is, IF he has home owners insurance.
As long as he is paying the taxes on the property there is probably not much you can do to force him to sell the property.
You could probably complain to the city or village, or county which ever applies about the upkeep of the property. Which if the local authorities have the upkeep done or fines those who do not upkeep their property that could prompt him to list and sell at a real price.

I live in Atlanta and I have a 51 x 21 custom pool and have a replaster estimate on the table for $ 5,400 but I feel like that is pretty steep. Can any help me to figure out how replaster costs are calculated? I’m hoping that there’s some type of standard or typical cost per sqr/ft that can help me figure out about how much it should cost for a pool the size of mine.
(Background: Not sure if it matters, but I bought the home as a foreclosure and the pool has not been maintained in over a year. The alternative option I’ve been offered is to have the pool repainted, but as I understand it that is just a temporary fix will leave the pool cloudy and could possibly damage the filtration system)
The pool is 4ft on both sides and 8ft in the middle. I was also told that the other drawback to getting the pool repainted is that it will cost more to replaster later if we get it painted now. Maybe I also don’t understand how long both of these options will last…

Painting a pool will not cause the water to be cloudy or damage the filter. I would steer clear of the plaster company that told you that. It is generally a type of epoxy paint that dries very hard. The only downside to painting a pool is that it will have to be re-painted every few years and it is slick to walk on. The upside is that it is relatively cheap and you can paint it any color you want. There are a lot of factors involved in what it will cost to have a pool re-plastered. Is the plaster peeling off? Is the base coat in good shape or will it have to be re-done as well? How deep is the pool? A 51×21 pool that is 3 ft. deep has a lot less wall area than a 51×21 pool that is 9 ft. deep. $ 5400 does not sound bad at all IMHO. I am having a pool that I take care of re-plastered next month and it will be close to $ 30,000.

Some companies do offer financing. Make a list of improvements that you want done then start calling companies and ask if they have financing available, if not some can recommend a finance company they work with.

We are having a new home built in a Houston suburb. The slab is post-tension, but has not been stressed yet (poured 8/13). Walking the house yesterday I found a crack that runs across the entire slab and is all the way down through the thickness of the slab on both sides. We called the builder and he said this is not uncharacteristic, and the crack will disappear when the cables are stressed. We went to the website of a large Houston post-tension company and found this confirmed but want to know if anyone has first-hand experience with this to reassure us.

Cement dries and shrinks and will ultimately crack. That is a large piece of cement and it will crack somewhere. If you notice that it is shearing (one side higher than the other) or the crack is in excess of a certain amount of inches (should be recorded in your local code) then you should push your guy a little more. Just make sure you have it documented that you advised the contractor and he replied to you in case something does perchance happen later on as that would be major structural. 0We have a video surveillance system installed in several fast-food restaurants for one of our customers. He has recently found that the turnover was down while turning in one of these outlets. Comments by the Director of the location and staff was that there was less traffic and fewer sales.

Preferably from UNIX, I’d like to be able to generate a nice-looking HTML-format file showing the differences between two other files. These “other files” would be C/C++ source code files. This would, for example, be used to facilitate software code inspections.
Does anyone have any neat Perl scripts or something that can do this?

Use VIM or gVIM. You can open a file for diffing, and you can set the colors, and things, and then you can let VIM convert the output to HTML.
