Am I good enough to play highschool Golf?

Question : Am I good enough to play highschool Golf?
Hey I just started playing golf about 2-3 months ago, and my varsity highschool tryouts are next week.

I just wanted to know if the kids on highschool golf teams are really that good?

I think im decent, and I know some people on the golf team that can’t be THAT great. No offense to the golfing community, but golf is the shit of sports in my highschool. We’re big into football and lacrosse. I don’t think many people will tryout.

Hey honestly at my High School anybody can make the team! I play football and lacrosse and in the offseason I took up golf and 3 months later I’m the captain of the Golf Team! Good luck and have fun with this great game!

Doesn’t hurt to try. I went to a very large high school, and nobody who tried out got cut.

It really depends on how competetive the school is in golf. At my school i tried out and shot 82, then 85 and didn’t even make the first cut. But, I heard about another school in my area where they play 9 holes for tryouts and freshmen have to break 50, sophomores have to break 46, Juniors have to break 42, and seniors have to break 40. It all depends on how competative the school is.

It really depends on how good the school is at golf. I played on our varsity team for 4 years in high school (just graduated). We won 2 state championships and 2 state championship runner-up titles. Our top 8 golfers (only 6 on varsity each tournament) could break 78 (so two on junior varsity could break 80). We consistently had 4 scores in the 70s every tournament and our school holds one of the lowest rounds in the history of high school golf in Kansas. In the last 4 years (including this year) we have had 4 people play golf at D1 schools.

What I’m pointing out is an extreme. We were one of the top golf programs in the state for 4 years and if you couldn’t shoot in the 70s you had no chance of being on varsity.

However, many schools in the area had people that wouldn’t break 100 all year for 18 holes.

It just depends on the school and how serious people are about golf.

It really depends on the size of the school and how competitive golf is. My school is small, but there’s lots of competition. I shot an 89 last year and missed the team, and I’ll probably have to shoot around 83-85 to make it this year. Good Luck!
