How can I have an oversized storage building moved?
Question : How can I have an oversized storage building moved?
I have a 16 x 24 storage building that I need to have moved about 6 miles. I’ve contacted the company that built it on-site at my house and they don’t move buildings that large. I’ve also contacted house movers with no response and the local towing companies can’t move it.
Does anyone have experience with this type of situation and how did you get your building moved?
movers and storage

I had a friend go through the same thing a few years ago. He wound up cutting it in half, renting a crane and flatbed truck. Hauled it to new house, and reassembled it.
I would have just left it, and bought a new one for the new location.
A friend had a 16×32 prefabricated garage moved a couple of years ago to his new home, less than a mile away. After asking around, he found a man who had an equipment rental business who would move it for him on a rollback truck. There was a lot of prep work getting it ready to load and it took quite some time to do. It was touchy loading and unloading it—keeping it balanced from side to side— so that they didn’t lose it off the flatbed while pulling it onto the truck and later bringing it off to the ground. Then it had to be leveled up again. Time consuming from start to finish, but he got it moved. It was somewhat expensive, and he probably would have been as well off to just have bought or built another building in the long run.
It had been delivered and set up at his first home by the company that manufactured it , but they wouldn’t agree to move it for him for pay to his present location. They only moved what they sold and didn’t hire the trucks out to anyone, but maybe in your area you could find out who builds and delivers buildings—not the one who built yours— and possibly they would agree to move yours for you. Also some mobile home movers may be able to move the building. I know Lowe’s sells storage buildings, and I assume they deliver and set them up, but don’t know if they would be able to move a large one like yours. What about some of the large wrecker services? They may have other equipment which would handle a 16×24 size. Or heavy equipment movers possibly?
All I know is that it is a hard job, and unless you are lucky , it’s not cheap. If you do find a mover, I would recommend someone who is bonded and insured. Ask to SEE the proof before you hire. Good luck to you.
