Question : What is the NYS law for evicting tenants if the landlord wants to repurpose the building? There’s no lease.
There’s a rumor that my landlord will be evicting everyone from our building – 9 apartments in all – in order to turn it into office space. Without a lease, how much notice do they have to give the tenants? Located in Upstate NY, not NYC.

With no lease, the conversation is over.
You have no contract with the landlord. She can terminate the relationship at the end of any paid month.
Going forward, get it in writing.

Absent a written long term lease, the landlord need only give you thirty days notice to vacate the premises.
Do not assume that the building is sold because of ‘measurements and asbestos checking’. While it’s probably for sale at this time, prospective buyers will check out those situations prior to making an offer to purchase.
