I graduated 3 months ago with a Finance degree and can’t find a job yet?
Question : I graduated 3 months ago with a Finance degree and can’t find a job yet?
I have no experience in financial services. During my undergraduate years I didn’t take opportunities doing internships due to my family businesses. I have found job offers at First Command, Edward Jones, Northwestern Mutual, and other insurance companies — these are just sales jobs. After visiting companies for interviews, I have found out something that I should have known earlier AND that is I hate working in cubicle/minimal office space. What are the other finance jobs that have less office interaction? Am I being nonsense/unrealistic?
Suppose I land a job and it pays only $ 20000 a year (due to being inexperience), is this sufficient for me to live on my own if I live in Houston? I’ve never been on my own so … I don’t really know.
Thanks for the inputs.

It really depends on the lifestyle you are accustomed to as to whether or not you can live on low pay. Everyone has to start out somewhere but you should only accept a job offer if you are comfortable doing the work they want you to do. If you have the drive, skill and motivation and you can sell yourself to others then you might be able to do better regardless of inexperience.
I’m in the same boat you are in, from Houston and graduated 3 months ago. The only other job offers that didn’t relate to finance or sales required a relocation far away, something I didn’t really wanna do. Just because you have a finance degree doesn’t mean that you have to stick to a finance related job either. In my opinion, the degree is pretty much a broad degree that will let you roam around the majority of functional business areas.
You could always try an entry level accounting position such as accounts payable/receivable, or look into other fields such as marketing, project management, consulting, or analytical positions.
I was under the assumption that most finance related jobs have plenty of office interaction.
I seriously doubt you’ll make only $ 20,000 with your degree. Full time bank tellers make that much without a college degree, and full time waiters/waitresses at a typical American restaurant make about $ 25,000 – $ 30,000 on average depending what tips are like. Also from what I can see, most analyst positions will net you around $ 35,000 – $ 50,000 entry level.
