How much would it cost for a New Zealand Vacation?
Question : How much would it cost for a New Zealand Vacation?
Is $ 7000 or $ 8000 sound about right? I know the plane ticket from Texas is going to run at least over $ 1000. Let me know what you think.

It really depends on how you want to do it. I spent 3 months backpacking in NZ and only spent $ 3000-4000 including flight. But I spent a lot of time camping or in hostels, didn’t eat at restaurants often etc.
The US dollar has appreciated since I was there, so things will be cheaper. If you spend time in Queenstown the activitities will be a big cost–expect to spend $ 200+ per outing. But cheap accomodation is easy to find–$ 20-$ 30 per night in a hostel, some of which are very nice.

You may find the air fare a lot more than that more like $ 1500 . Once you are there then it depends what sort of accommodation you want . If you stay at back packer hostels then around $ 25 a night or motels which usually have a kitchen in them then about $ 80 a night or more up market hotels about $ 100 to $ 150 a night. You will need airfare round trip from where ever you are in Texas to (most likely) Los Angeles. Then round trip to Auckland – $ 1500 to $ 2000 NZD. If you intend to fly elsewhere in New Zealand, look at that, as well. I would say $ 100 a night will get you a hotel somewhere along the lines of a Holiday Inn in the US. Plan on everything costing about double what it does in the states. While the kiwi dollar his risen against the US dollar, it still doesn’t go as far and everything is twice the price. Backpacker places are cheaper but do your homework on those as some can be pretty bad – noisy and dirty. Others can be a lot of fun and very clean and safe. $ 7-8000 is a lot of money and should last awhile if it’s only one person. New Zealand is awesome, but expensive. Don’t forget travel insurance in case you get sick here.
