Question : Break lease?
Hi, I’m living in an apartment in suburb of Chicago, and i have seriously hard time with my upstair neighbor’s noise. He plays guitar or piano all the time (He played after midnight too, but I had strongly complained and he doesn’t play at that time on these days…) and makes sharp floor tapping noises. I have complained about 7 times to the aprtment office and two times to upstair guy too (At the time we complained all day long piano noise, he complained us too that our cooking smell is unpleasure to him because he doesn’t cook at home and something mostly nonsense). But, nothing is improved that he still do samething everyday. I talked with the office worker, and she said that there are no laws for playing music instrument during the daytime. He plays piano about 5~8 hours per day. So, I decided to move out, but I have one year lease that I should stay until late October in this year. Is there anyway I can break the lease and leave earlier? Thank you…

File a complaint against the apartment owner for failing to provide livable conditions. That will get his attention.
