I am planning on finishing off my basement. However, the concrete floor is cracking and crumbling.?
Question : I am planning on finishing off my basement. However, the concrete floor is cracking and crumbling.?
Do I need to break it all up and haul it out? Or can I cover it with another product? There is limited headspace so if I can just cover it up, it would have to be with a product that wouldn’t add anymore than 2 inches. Any ideas? The concrete was poured in the 50′s or early 60′s. Thank-you!

Clean the exsisting concrete of loose debris. You can then skim coat the floor with sand mix or there are products made to overcoat bad surfaces that only reqiure 1/4″ to 1/2″ thick overlay. Check at your local home improvement store. There are also bonding polymers available to increase bond strength.
