Question : all inclusive vacations to cabo, mexico?
i’ve never been to mexico before and would like to plan a trip there with one other person at the end of this summer who has also never been. i’m a little bit worried because of the swine flu scare and also just because i’ve never been to a foreign country and i heard that mexican police can be corrupt especially with all the drug wars going on down there.
just curious, has anyone been down to cabo recently? and do you think there is much to worry about for a clueless american in a resort town? i’ve heard if you stick to staying within the resort area you should be ok..and i know it will always depend on the deals going on and what type of year but what was the average you paid for a trip down there? my friend and i are planning on going for maybe a week.
also, how are the all inclusive resorts? is it worth it to go all inclusive? any other tips about mexico would be appreciated!

I went to an all-inclusive resort in mexico.
I got the stomach flu (or so i think) after eating the food.
Don’t do it.
Go somewhere else or a non-inclusive resort.

Hola! Well first off, good for you to plan to finally visit Mexico!! You’ve been missing out.
I live down here in Cabo, know it really well, and can help you.
Any first timers to Mexico have to first realize they will be entering another country!! Yes, we are very very americanized here in Cabo, but you are still in Mexico. You are going to see shantys, dogs running loose, smelly stinky stuff, and questionable stuff. You will see laws (we take seriously in america/canada) broken. That’s okay! You are in a different country! If you can check your attitude at the border and get ready to go with the flow, then you will have a really great experience here in Mexico. Seriously, that is the first step.
Any newcomers should ALWAYS start with an all inclusive. We have a few down here. Some are in the town of Cabo San Lucas, some are in the town closer to the airport called San Jose del Cabo (where I live) and some are located inbetween. If you want to be right in Cabo, then I recommend the Riu Palace or Riu Sante Fe. Second would be Pueblo Bonitos. There are 3. All are about a 15 minute walk to town.
If you want a little less crazy party atmosphere but nice resort to stay at, chose one in SJD, the Royal Solaris, Crowne Plaza, El Presidente, Barcelo, Grand Mayan are all located on a huge stretch of beach that goes for miles, and are all a 5 minute walk to town.
Lastly, do not fret about swine flu or gang stuff. Either thing is not a concern here in Cabo and you will feel very safe walking the streets and taking in all the activities. Unfortunately the american media has scared alot of tourists out of Mexico, and my theory was to keep them spending at home….for the economy….could happen!

oh and p.s. for the comment above about the stomach flu, its true, most people do get mild diareaha eating any food FROM anywhere down here….its almost a given. There is alot of bad bacteria on most stuff. Best thing to do is drink plenty of bottled water, and eat yogurt everyday…but there are remedies should you come down with ‘tourista’. That is nothing to worry about.
