Acorn pock marks all over 6 month old car, parked at parking lot at work?
Question : Acorn pock marks all over 6 month old car, parked at parking lot at work?
My co-worker drove her 6 month old car to work last week and parked in her assigned lot under a tree. We pay a lot to park where we work. During the day, this tree dropped hundreds of acorns on her car leaving pock marks all over the hood and top of it.
She contacted the parking department and they told her that they do not have insurance to cover that type of damage, that they were not responsible, it was an “act of god”, and to contact her insurance company.
Are they responsible for this damage, or were they just trying to get out of paying for their neglect?
I know if someone parked in my driveway and one of my trees caused damage to their vehicle my homeowners would have to cover it. Would it be true in this case?
haha! sue the squirrels for their nuts!
It looks like hail damage.

I’ve never heard of an insurance claim for acorn damage, I’d love to see how that works out. Maybe you could sue the squirrels.
Too strange! I just got a claim like this today. The acorn damage is covered under the comprehensive portion of the insured’s coverage. It is probably not possible for the insurance company to subrogate and collect damages from the parking lot owners though, unless your co-worker friend could prove that this had happened before and the parking lot owner knew of the history of damage to those that parked in that spot.
The coverage for acorn damage is no different than if it were a tree branch falling on a car. The property owner would have needed to maintain the tree or failed to act if notified of a problem.
