Ever wonder what Heritage USA looks like now, 22 years after it collapsed? I found myself in Charlottle, NC, recently (on June 26, 2009), and decided to take a spin through the defunct former grounds of the PTL ministry. This is the first of many videos that I took. You will notice that in my videos- there are MANY of them- I pay very close attention to details. As a former frequent visitor to Heritage USA in the 80′s, I was quite familiar with the grounds, placement of buildings and so forth. What I found on this visit- almost 21 years to the exact day of my most recent visit- was astounding, shocking, unexpected, and upsetting to a degree. This first video starts behind the former Heritage Towers building, at the now-official main entrance to the grounds. All of the streets have been renamed. There is no big billboard out on Rt 21 showing you how to get to the property. Indeed, it has been 21 years since I had been here, and I had nearly forgotten the way. Thanks to mapquest, I was able to determine that the entrance to the grounds was via a boulevard now named Regent (or Regency). I was amazed at the complete explosion in housing leading up to the site. Most of the homes and communites I saw appeared relatively new, as in built perhaps within the past 5 years. My first stop was to the old towers themselves. The old building itself is still a looming, vacant shell of a building, completely surrounded by a fence.
