What Should I Do About Carpet Mold?
Question : What Should I Do About Carpet Mold?
About a month ago, I had a flood in my basement. Now there is mold on the carpet (tan colored mushrooms). Besides seeing a professional, what steps should I take today to dispose of this mess? Should I throw out all the stuff in the room? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Ok, I dont know anything about carpets in homes, but I had mold on my carpet in my car because some child spilled chocolate milk on the floor of my car. I tried everything from steam cleaning to scrubbing by hand. Its still stained, but theres no more mold. I used 409. It can bleach carpets though, so be careful. If its in your basement, do you have padding under your carpet? Because if you do, youll probably have to have the whole thing replaced. It will probably be stained forever, so I would invest in some new carpet. I wouldnt get anything to expensive if this problem could potentially happen again. Good luck.
Mold is a real pain to get rid of. I would have recommended that you do an immediate steam-clean of your carpet right after the flood and put a dehumidifier in the room to dry it out. Now you will most likely have to dispose of the carpet, and wash everything in the room with a vinegar & borax solution in warm water. Use a dehumidifier to make sure that everything is thoroughly dry. Items that smell moldy and cannot be effectively washed will have to be thrown out.
