My house cleaner stole my wedding ring. What can I do about this?
Question : My house cleaner stole my wedding ring. What can I do about this?
Since I did not physically see her put the ring in her pocket, the police and the cleaning service’s insurance company told me I will have to file my own homeowners’ insurance claim. I live in Oklahoma, and I don’t know what to do. The company is insured and bonded. Wouldn’t they be responsible for replacing it?
So because I don’t have an proof other than my word against hers, I have to file a claim and make my insurance go up? That just doesn’t seem right to me. What about the company being insured and bonded? And what ever happened to the customer always being right?

weather she stole it or not, there is no proof. Have your home owners insurance take care of it. Sorry………..

If the police aren’t already doing it, find any photo of the ring you can, or draw a picture of it and make several copies. Drop these off at, or fax them to, all the pawn shops and jewelry stores in the area. Generally, the honest shop owners will call police if they see the same ring come in. This may change things for you, if she or someone she knows attmempts to sell your ring. Be sure to include any engraving, your name and phone number, as well as the name of the investigating officer, the agency telephone number, and a case number. (If you don’t know it, contact the police agency records section and request it. Whether or not a report was created, there will still be a call number recorded.)

File a police report. When you write your citizen’s statement put everything in detail. List as much info on your house cleaner as you can, the detectives will then do a follow-up investigation. Best of luck to you.
