i need help with a career decision please (relocation)?
Question : i need help with a career decision please (relocation)?
i seem to be so fascinated with the state of Georgia and no matter what, i always wind up looking online at the job & real estate listings, dreaming about being out there and i WANT to go out there. i want to be out there so much that i made reservations to bring my new year in out there. i live in new york & i hate it out here. about 5 yrs ago i made a relocation move to Georgia but it only lasted 3 months. i dont think i was ready mentally for it, i didnt know anything about the south, didnt know i needed a car, and i knew NO ONE. i got home sick, got lonely, started crying alot & came back home. but ever since then i have NOT been able to stop thinking about Georgia and how nice it is out there, and the beautiful apartment i had, how quiet it was, the landscaping, and i want to go back. thing is also, my RESUME is “jumpy”. i dont have “stability”. i lasted at jobs 8 months, 9 months, a year, year & a half, and right now i just got hired at another firm – they’re paying me well – but i’ve only been here 3 months. i think in Georgia they want job stability so that shoots down my chances of finding a job out there, especially since i just started my current job 3 months ago. i am a legal secretary. i have EXCELLENT skills. can anyone give me some advice on how to go about presenting myself so that i can secure a good job out there and perhaps point my feet towards relocating out there? i really want to go …….

Get some money together and go to Georgia, if that’s where you really want to be. Don’t stay in New York if it makes you miserable. Georgia and NY are like night and day. The people, the way people talk, the driving, the land, is all very different.
Maybe it’s time for a change. So save up your money, take a trip down there for a week or 2 and start filling out applications. That way, you can maybe convince someone to do a telephone interview, or you will have to catch a plane down there to interview. If you get hired, pack up and get the heck out of there!
Good luck!
Don’t quit your job now. Stick it out for another year or so. It’s more likely you’ll get a job somewhere else if they see you’ve been at one for more than a few months. (This coming from a biologist who can only get temporary work that has lasted at maximum 8 months.)
I’ve done a ton of moving around in the years since I graduated, and I’ve found that once I start work and meet people the situation is a lot more bearable. Until then, I read a familiar book, watch a familiar TV bshow, listen to the radio, do something to remind myself that I am still connected to the world.
