In a perfect world you should save all your receipts, although that is not always possible. With your home inventory, you could also get your personal property assessed. What we do at Steve’s Home Inventory in Wisconsin is list what the customer paid for the item with the photo, as long as they remember that price. If not then the insurance company would probably justify a price.

most of the people will not have much inventory saved for a day like that ,some insurance companies will be fair and help you and some not,if you have cheap one like allied they will only pay around 60 % of your loss if they can get away with it ,no pictures no videos, no documentation could mean bad news,if you take them to court they will play circles around you with the most expensive evil experts there are around ,so better stick with a more expensive reputable insurance company
