How do I find out if an insurance broker is someone reputable before I pay?
Question : How do I find out if an insurance broker is someone reputable before I pay?
I am getting a new insurance policy on my home and I want to make sure I am giving my money to someone that will not dissapear on me. Is there a checklist for things to lookout for before paying the premium?

Go to your state Department of Insurance you can look up the agent by there name or insurance license, which should be on there stationary, business card, website, or any piece of material they give you. Also if they have given you a quote ask for a copy of the quote they got from there underwriter or general agent. If you know the name of the company the agent is writing your policy with you can call them and give them your agents name, a quote number, or policy number and see if it’s legit. I’d check the BBB, and also contact the main office (call State Farm if they’re a rep of them, etc.). And I’d also find out from friends/family/etc if they’re reliable. Make sure to ask questions about them (how long they’ve been in the business, are things busy this time of year…. you know) if you’re not sure!!
