Would you pass up on a great full-time job if your current work at home 50 hrs per month job can lead to more?
Question : Would you pass up on a great full-time job if your current work at home 50 hrs per month job can lead to more?
I am currently working for a great small marketing agency from my home (the agency is about 2.5 hours drive from my house), but at the moment, the owner just allows me up to 50 hours per month. He has promised me that this job can become full time eventually as he is finding me more projects to work on. Also, he is allowing me to work on sales opportunities for us (not as paid hourly, but once the sales go through–I’ll get straight commission)…This owner has been really great to work for–he is really smart, cares about us contractors, and really knows how to run a company the smart way. I am now used to working from home and it is great to have the flexibility–I’ve also been taking some college courses. Also, I really enjoy the work overall!
On a different note, I have an interview next week with a great software company here in my city. I am really excited about it, but at the same time, I am completely unsure about going in to an office full time. I have a friend that works for this software company–she contacted me about this opportunity out of the blue last week. This is exactly what I was looking for before I started my contract job with the marketing agency, but now I am really enjoying my freedom. I’ve only been with this marketing agency for almost 4 months. At the same time, the full-time job would allow my husband and I to qualify for a new construction loan much sooner for a house that we have been planning to build sometime soon.
…I’d like to know what you all suggest. Just because I will be interviewing for the full-time job at the software company, does not mean that I’ll get it–so I probably shouldn’t be stressing about it just yet, but I like to have a plan so that when it comes to that, then I’ll be ready.
Also, I’m thinking ahead because my husband and I would like to start a family really soon, so the work at home option would be really nice when we’re at that point.

sit down with a piece of paper and make 2 columns. on one side is pros what you like or would be better with the job and on the other side its cons what the downside to the job would be. then see which side has more listed.
What you are doing now means you’ll never be out of a job, with the software company as soon as they let you off you are out of a job.. desperation and all that comes with it.
At least now you are learning marketing which you can always use to create your own job unlike all these now out-of-a-job previously on-a-good-job dummies.
Sure it’s hard at first but better dealing with some insecurity now than having it all hit you in one big lump one day in the future.
