windows XP home edition, windows 7 starter or windows 7 home premium? which is right for me?
Question : windows XP home edition, windows 7 starter or windows 7 home premium? which is right for me?
i am a college student and i need a netbook for my schooling. when i searched online, i had too many choices to choose from which made me really confused. i’m not really into the brand of the laptop. any laptop i think would be ok as long as you have proper maintenance and good customer service and warranty. i’m thinking ACER or DELL but i’m still not so sure so please help me out.
i’m left to the question of “What OS is better for me?”
some say XP is fast and stable but since its an old model, microsoft will support it less for the years to come (just like 95, 98 etc) til its long gone. others say windows 7 is good only for netbooks with 1 GB memory and windows 7 home premium will run slow in a netbook. some say windows 7 is just like vista. (i never really liked vista).
i’ll primarily use it for presentations, word documents, music, long lasting battery would be great. also for the internet. no intense gaming although watching movies are my only main entertainment.
so any advice?? any suggestions? anything i should watch out for or remember? please don’t be too technical on the terms you use. thank you!
hmmm just 3 windows? i’m quite a researcher so i kinda need more than 3 but maybe I can manage. Thanks for that info Aland. I might go for a windows 7 starter and an ACER. ![]()

XP Home has already hit the discontinued support level, and you do NOT want Win7 starter edition!
Go with XP or Window 7 Home Premium. Avoid Vista. Theres no knowing how long XP or earlier version will continue to be supported, but I’d choose 7 to be on the safe side.
