@TrollBuster9090 Roosevelt called upon the US to be “the great arsenal of democracy,” and supply war materials to the Allies. The Lend-Lease bill became law on MARCH 11, 1941. During the next 4 years, the U.S. sent more than $50 billion worth of war materiel to the Allies. In 1939, US had about 356,000 in our military. The United States used draft laws to build their armed forces 6 mil. The US Selective Service Act became law on SEPTEMBER 16, 1940! WAR ended high unemployment New Deal didn’t!

@yeahokay1500 You have bought into a common misconception of the truth. Individuals making between $25,000 to $100,000 are concidered middle class which depending on the model make up 25% to 60% of our over all working population. Democrats are the ones who continue to raise the costs of public services! Wealth moves to the environment that best helps sustain it, so the burden will always be passed onto the middle class. Democrats will never try to squeeze blood from a turnip.

@yeahokay1500 You say you hate Bush, but like Obama. I find that amazing as Obama has continued so many of Bush’r policies. Patriot Act, continued occupation of Afghanistan, bailouts, deficit spending, absolute lies & unfullfilled promises.
I voted for Obama but am at least able to admit when I’m wrong perhaos that is why most people are going Independant? -

@yeahokay1500 I’m not a Republican, I am an Independant. Please enlighten me as to what Bills that you feel Obama has passed that will be good for the nation? Republicans turned their backs on Bush as well as Independants, that’s why McCain lost to Obama & many senators & represenatives lost their seats. Please prove me wrong!

@yeahokay1500 Reagan ended the Carter era inflation, ended the cold war & reestablished the moral & confidence of the country. Unemployment peaked in 1982-3 (the same time the tax cuts were being implemented) and then dropped steadily down to 5.2% in 1989. The tax rate cuts and economic expansion cut unemployment significantly by 4.3% after it had increased by 2.5% from 1980-2. Obama is right to cut taxes but he also needs to decrease government.

“The US Selective Service Act became law on SEPTEMBER 16, 1940!”Try again. The Selective Training and Service act was a lottery draft capped at a maximum of 900 000. Large scale conscription didn’t happen until 1942.
Percentage of workforce employed by military:
1940: 1.8%
1941: 8.5%
1942: 25.7%
1943: 39.4%
1944: 40.3% -

“Unemployment peaked in 82-83, the same time tax cuts were being implemented”Nope.
Kemp-Roth tax cuts: August 81 (unemployment 7.4%)
Unemployment continued to rise, peaking at 10.8% in Dec. 82, not below 10% again until July 83.Inflation was crushed by Paul Volker jacking the Fed rate to 20% in 1981. Unemployment rate mirrored interest rates.
Reagan cut taxes while INCREASING spending (military 5% to 6% GDP), tripling the National Debt (0.99 trillion ’81 to 2.8 trillion ’89)

@TrollBuster9090 Your claim was that the New Deal ended the depression & high unemployment. I provided you the exact dates of the selective service act, and the lend lease bill to prove it was actually the war that brought us out & not FDR’s New Deal. Obama wants to emulate FDR’s New Deal this makes sense to you?
-

@joe035
The assertion that Obama wants to emulate FDR makes no sense given that FDR was actually a progressive, while Obama’s policy issues have been farther right than Eisenhowers, Nixon’s and Bush Sr’s. By historical standards Obama is center-right. It’s only because the Overton window has been pushed so far to the right in the last 15 years that sophists can get away with painting him as a socialist. -

@joe035
Winston Churchill nationalized the coal mining industry, created labor exchanges and the National Insurance Act (pensions), and started the process of creating the socialized National Health Service.Nixon brought in wage and price controls and nationalized Amtrak.
Bush Sr. bailed out the entire savings and loan industry and his son bailed out the entire banking industry. Yes, we own shares in GM thanks to Obama, but also shares in AIG, Goldman Sachs and CITI Bank thanks to Bush.

@GodChristLord No Bill Clinton & the democrats wanted & still want people to be able to own their own homes. They pushed these programs through Fannie & Freddie blocking any efforts to undermine responsible behavior in these loans! See Barney Frank Maxine Waters block senate sub commitee investigation of fannie/freddie on youtube before the bubble burst. Capitalism works!! It is the perversion by politicians & illogical business practices which allowed this disaster to happen!
