Can I get rid of black mold myself?
Question : Can I get rid of black mold myself?
I am not even sure if this is truly black mold. We had a leak which was repaired a while ago and the wall is still open. I noticed some spots on the sheetrock but it has not grown or spread. Do we need a professional to come in and remove the sheetrock and mold or is there a safe way to do it ourselves?

Spray the affected area with bleach and let it dry. Then use Kilz primer and repaint the area. This will do it.

they USED TO THINK … that bleech works but that is only temporary now they say to take the mold off with hydrogen peroxide,the same stuff you would use for a wound. iot kills the mold and helps prevent it from comming back. find the source of moisture and fix that first! maybe repair the wall too but clean all thats black with hydrogen peroxide.

I did mine myself , but that was before all the fuss , check around , to see what the procedure is now . if the land fill will take it like it is just tear it out ,and haul it off , I remodeled my house , I had some mold , and a lot of lead base paint , I removed the mold ,and stripped the lead paint with heat myself with no special equipment it didn’t do anything to me .. .. that was ten years ago I am still healthy …..

If it’s a small area, just clean it with bleach and then spray with Kilz. If it’s a large area, you probably need to cut out the drywall.
