It should be stated whether it is covered in your extended warranty policy. If you are not sure, simply call the dealer to make sure.
“All written warranties contain a specific time or mileage limit, such as three years or 36,000 miles. However, a warranty does not necessarily expire when the vehicle reaches that limit.
In most states, including California, a manufacturer’s duty to repair a defect under warranty can continue beyond the warranty period. When a defect appears during the warranty but repair attempts fail to correct the defect, the warranty period is extended until the defect has actually been fixed. Some states require the consumer to notify the manufacturer that the defect has not been fixed in order to qualify for this extension.”
“The warranty period es essentially a ‘discovery’ period. The warranty continues to cover any defect discovered during the warranty period, even if the repairs must extend beyond it. This rule was established to prevent manufacturers from performing Band-Aid repairs, designed to correct-or hide-the defect only until warranty expires, and then saying, “We have no further obligation.” The law requires a permanent cure.
