Radiology Benefit Management (RBM) companies screen requests for pre-certification of advanced medical imaging procedures for private third-party payors; their only function is to reduce cost and assure appropriateness of procedures. Even Medicare will be requiring some type of pre-certification in the future, so the time is now to learn how to deal successfully with RBMs. This presentation will provide information on the use of RBMs by private third-party payors; an overview of the major RBMs and which payors they work with; how to establish protocols for obtaining pre-certification; and information on precertification for Medicare, which is coming in the not-so-distant future. The presenter will also discuss success stories from facilities that have learned to work with RBMs.
