Abraham “Abe” Rodriguez, Jr. is an experienced and versatile musician in New York City born. As a member of Grupo Folklorico Experimental and Nuevayorquino The Oyu Oro Afro-Cuban Dance Ensemble, Abe is a sought-after players of the New York Latin jazz scene. He’s on tour for over 20 years with artists such as Puntilla y Su Nueva Generación, Totico Y Su Rumberos, Celia Cruz, Kip Hanrahan (see a complete list below). He has recorded with Puntilla, Totico y Sus Rumberos on the single “What’s Your Name?” Daniel Ponce “Arawe, Kip Hanrahan, Kubat, and Los Afortunados. It is also the singer of international repute on CD Ray Santiago Pa ‘Nadie Me What olvides. “
Abe has aired on television was part of WXTV, and WNYE WNET New York. He played at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, New York Coliseum, The Blue Note, Smalls, Fat Cat, Pregones Theater, Lidia de Burgos Cultural Center, Sweet Rhythm, Aaron Davis Hall, Alvin Ailey Dance School, SOB, La Fonda Boricua, The Pyramid Club, Plan B, and Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe in the East Village and the Puerto Rican Parade and Cuba. Abe has also appeared at many colleges and universities, including Columbia University, Brown University School of Music in Berkeley, the University of Miami, CCNY, Nassau Community College, Hunter College and Brooklyn College.

Abraham Rodriguez received his musical training at the School of Music in Berkeley and the University of Miami. He was a singer and drummer for the Afro-Caribbean Afortunados Ensemble and worked with Los Rios Orlando “Puntilla” and Roberto Borrell, who played an important role in the spread of Afro-Cuban music and dance. Los Afortunados made for theaters, schools, clubs and community centers throughout New York. He has also received government grants to study various Afro-Cuban folklore.
Mr. Rodriguez
knowledge and mastery of ritual and secular music of the Caribbean, and Du-Wop has sought him as one of the most sought after musicians in the Afro-Latin Jazz music scene. Abraham Rodriguez is known worldwide for his music in Spain, Switzerland, Cuba and Mexico. He also gives private lessons and teaches workshops on voice and percussion, including congas, bongos, Bata, Shekere, cymbals and other instruments.
