Hello From Chicago – Part 4 – Chinatown and Second City
Chicago, Arlington House, October 23,2005 Sunday, 30/06 clock
After thoroughly exploring the Pullman Historic District, we decided to Chinatown, one of the many ethnic neighborhoods, Chicago has to offer to consider. The weather was cool and gray with the occasional glance in the dark hours of sunshine, rainy and cold, so instead of walking, we decided to have called an early dinner at a restaurant in China Town King Lobster.
Both my friend Linda and I ordered a vegetarian, but after taking our order the waiter back and told us to give us more money would be much higher for each dish as vegetables during the months of winter. I decided to have a look at their snack menu and saw the same price, which was performed in the snack menu in the main menu. Accordingly, I put an argument when both dinner and snack menu in the same price for both dishes, I would not agree with a charge for each additional property on the basis of an oral exam. Either you change the menu, the higher price mentioned or charge the prices that appear on both menus. I’m not usually a difficult task, picky br guest in a host institution, but to try to pay more for a dish that does not seem to pay listed at a lower price on the two menus to a business practice to myself Br <> />
The waiter / manager finally agreed to charge us the prices on the menu and the food was delicious effect. After exploring the Chicago Cultural Center and the historic Pullman district, we were very hungry and we enjoyed our early dinner.
After we collect, we jumped on the subway, because we wanted to check in Little Italy. We are on the Blue Line and spoke of the UIC (University of Illinois) and walk south of campus. At that time it was raining and it was wet one days rather inhospitable. We never really find Little Italy ended, but was cut by about 40 minutes in the rain and after this exercise in futility, we decided to continue our evening plans. To take part in a show at Second City, the place famous Chicago comedy
So we took the metro back to downtown Jackson and we waited for the purple line, until we realized that this line works only during peak hours on weekdays. So we asked what we have to take line, and we discovered that the Brown Line (Kimball) us to Second City. At that time we realized that we waited on the wrong side of the platform. I think running in the loop el-trains in one direction and that we wondered why we drive three blocks from the brown line across seen on the platform, but none of them have arrived on this page.
I would say we spent a good 45 minutes waiting time on the wrong side of the platform until we finally had enough and I went on a CTA employee who ask us to correct out on the platform. In the rain it was not the most exciting part of our wet trip but we were talking with great in-jokes in our dialects of Austrian origin.
Finally, we have a brown line train and made our way to North Wells Street, near the old town, the home of Second City Comedy Club. Since 1959, Second City has become a landmark of Chicago and a national treasure. This theater has launched the careers of such comic geniuses as John Belushi, Mike Myers, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, and more. It offers comedy shows every night, and a variety of programs and services.
The theater has two stages, both of which were sold yesterday, so we started on the 4th Floor of the building, Donny Skybox Studio Theatre, which is associated with Second City worldwide. The theater offers an eclectic mix of student productions and performances of alternative and $ 00 per person, tickets were a bargain.
The awareness program and the diversity of product two fifty-eight original shows each year Theatre Workshop Second City, Donny Skybox made on the fourth floor of Piper’s Alley. At least one of these productions has written an original contribution and all the range and diversity, a group of African-Americans, Latinos and Asian actors through annual auditions votes.
We bought tickets for the show 21 hours: “Six Degrees of Reparation,” a magazine of hip comedy with improvisation, original documents and classic scenes second largest city with a multicultural city, the feeling that was put on foot by 6 young actors, including 5 black and an Eastern artist.
The show offered a lot of slapstick and a variety of different designs. One of the funniest sketch was “Osama bin Laden could be anywhere” with the title, where one of the actresses on a big black beard down and kept popping up in various everyday situations. The “Superior Asian Sketch played with A, B, C (Asian, Black, White) showed and how the stereotypes we all have preconceived ideas of the other. In “Black Black Awards” sketch troupe made fun of stars such as Whitney Houston, Maya Angelou, and even Martha Stewart.
One of the most poignant skits was in a store Office Depot fantasy, where store employees were black and Asian service is very bad and hostile to a variety of clients. In the end, said young black dealer, was having a content of 0.50 an hour after all expenses (food, rent, bus tickets, do their nails, etc.), there are 9 in the hole, and a smile at this price would not be included in the service.
We enjoyed the spectacle of these huge talented actor that we both love theater and comedy. In terms of culture, Chicago has to offer everyone.
Well, today is our last day here in Chicago, and time should be very cold rain with 60% probability. Fortunately, Chicago has many indoor so I am sure that we choose not boredom arises.
