From the supplier: The automobile insurance company Direct Insurance Co agreed with Tennessee insurance industry regulators to cut back on the solicitation of new business, refund up to million to policyholders and pay a 0,000 fine. Direct signed consent decrees with the Tennessee Departments of Commerce, Financial Institutions and Insurance to limit its new auto insurance premia to five times its policyholder surplus. Direct increased its auto premia from .5 million in 1991 to .5 million in 1993, half of which was ceded to other carriers.
