My Compaq Pressario V2000 freezes while I am using it….?
Question : My Compaq Pressario V2000 freezes while I am using it….?
…It does not seem to be connected to any program, but did start
after I installed a new Lexmark wireless printer and a HP potosmart camera. I know this is usually software and have had problems with Lexmark printers before so I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition this evening. Now, it is freezing still. Any suggestions? Could it be overheating? Just an idea. Nothing else comes to mind. Is this model a pain? I have only had it about three years and had to do some other repairs on it. Are laptops mostly like this? I really want a laptop, my daughter spent $ 1400.00 on this one (including programs and warranty). I want photo-editing mostly. I am trying to get into this and more graphics. Any more suggestions on cheap, more reliable and rebuilt?

I hope this helps out it sure did mine.
Sometimes a computer will freeze up like that when there is a problem with a memory chip. A failing sector on a hard disk can also cause this, but you generally get other problems, like system files being randomly corrupted, when you have a disk problem. I don’t think it’s related to your printer, but it’s possible that some of the software that came with it is deadlocking your system.
There is some information on HP/Compaq’s website about problems of this kind:

The one that would seem most applicable to your situation is this one:

However, it’s rather generic and does not address possible hardware issues. If you have the original disks that came with your computer, try to locate one with hardware diagnostics, sometimes called “customer diagnostics” and run some tests on your system. If you have a memory fault, you should be able to fix it by replacing the memory chip or chips in your computer. This is a repair you can perform yourself.
As to recommendations – I am partial to Dell and Lenovo laptops more than other brands. You can sometimes get deals on refurbished models from the manufacturers or resellers, but I’d try to fix your Compaq first. If you really want high-end graphics, you’d be happier with a desktop system that has a good graphics card and a big monitor. Laptops are compact and convenient, but graphics performance has never been their forte’.
